Default Turn signal stalk failure

Oh about 9 months ago I had a problem where the RH turn signal stuck on and after a few quick up and down motions it cleared. Well Saturday it came back and it's now permanent. So I ordered this from Rockauto which is a whole lot more affordable than Jags $300+ price.

2005 JAGUAR S-TYPE Turn Signal Switch

I'll let you know if it works correctly. It seems like it should and at that price why bother with a used one.

Now to get the JTIS to work on WIN 7, it's not doing so at the moment.

This seems like a straightforward easy repair?

Fingers crossed.

Maybe the write up "Clock Spring Replacement" in the How To section might aid in replacement.

Yes! Thanks I think?

Looks like this may be way more work than I had hoped. Steering wheel and air bag removal and whatever a clock spring in a steering wheel is???

I'll know in a couple of days.

The parts manual always make it look a lot easier. My JTIS isn't working in WIN 7, looks like I need XP compatibility mode. What's weird is it reads the CD just fine but my XP machine won't read the CD at all. How nice ... LOL.

Well looking at the the part covered in that how-to guide now I'm wondering if it's the stalk or that part that is my problem?

Anyone care to comment?

I looked at that stalk part and thought it was probably in that portion but I'm just not sure.

Thanks but that's not my exactly my symptom.

If I put the LH on it works and when I return to center via rotating the wheel or just moving the stalk it goes off but the RH comes on even though I haven't selected it so I'm just not sure what the issue is here.

BTW, after much struggle the JTIS finally revealed itself and for this stalk removal you don't have to touch the steering wheel at all. But then I don't really know what's at fault here yet. I hate to order two parts ...

Perhaps I should pull it and see if I can figure it out with a volt ohm meter though this may not be just a set of simple mechanical switched so a VOM in the hands of a ignoramus might just screw it up?

I hate guess maintenance.

Good find and thanks for telling the rest of us!!

At that price just change it out. As you found out the steering wheel does not need to be removed. It's not very hard to change it. Just as always watch breaking plastic so try to do it when it warm out if possible.

Part arrived this afternoon so if it's not snowing or raining it goes in tomorrow.
Looks correct.

But it was shipped to me from Virginia.

Fixed in about 1 hr.

small flat tipped screw driver to release the modular connector on the tilt/pedal switch

#2 phillips headed medium length screwdriver.
#2 phillips headed long length screwdriver
#25? torx for the lower dash cover 4 screws. The easy part.
Hand held mirror so that you can see everything.
Some 3/4" masking tape

Large dose of being able to do everything in reverse due to the mirror.

But the 2 screws holding the lower column cover were hard to guess the proper size and without that they don't come out.

The upper screws for the upper cover are identical but you can see two out of three of them quite easily. The third is near the front on the wiper stalk side and hidden a bit by the harness.

Lift it out and and it's easy as pie to replace.

Now to put those screws back in to hold the upper cover is much harder.
I used the 3/4" masking to make a holder for the screw to the tip and then with the mirror, patience and few curse words it goes back together.
