Default Upper Shock Mount Bushings 2003 S-Type

I've tried to find this info but came up dry!

I need to replace the front upper shock mount bushings on my 2003 S-Type -- I would like to see/hear instructions on how to do this or even if it's possible. I would appreciate any information including parts list, any special tools, etc.

I did this job on my 2003 XJ8 without any problems, but haven't attempted it on the S-Type yet.

My indie mechanic wants $720 to replace both front shock mount bushings! If it's as easy and cheap as it was on my XJ8, we're talking less than an hour and negligible parts cost!

However, I was looking for front shock mount bushings for my 2003 S-Type and found this :
Jaguar UPPER MOUNT FOR FRONT SHOCK AND SPRING - XR856158
or can I pop out the worn bushing and press in a new one? If I can do the latter, what size bushing would I need?

Any advice would be great. Thanks!

Thanks Gary, I was afraid that was the only solution! I'll order one and see if it fixes my issue. Since they cost $90, I'm going to get one (the driver's side bushing looks fine, the passenger's side is all crumbled!) and see if it fixes the noise.

Now that I know what part I need, can anyone offer any instructions on how to replace the old with the new?

Mike are you sure you need the upper bushing repaired? Usually it's the lower shock bushing that goes bad. Gus has DIY outlined here for the front shock replacement including lower bushing replacement here: JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource

Thanks for the repair link -- lots of great info and photos.

I do need to replace the upper shock bushing -- very deteriorated and you can see that the shock is loose at the top.

Can I take the upper plate off and replace the upper mount from the top or do I have to drop the shock and remove it from underneath?

You have to drop it from the bottom I'm afraid. Gus' repair link should take you through the whole process.

One word of advice, I needed two pairs of spring compressors when taking them off of the strut. This helped alternate between the pairs during compression due to close spacing of the spring coils.
