Default Valvoline ATF for Jags, all years and models.

I use MaxLife ATF for almost all cars according to Valvoline.
Used it for Mercedes and my Jaguar. $20-25/ga

I don't see any way it can meet those incompatible specs...

Just looked at the Valvoline Guide, and MaxLife Full Synthetic specs do not include ZF Longlife etc.

Maybe OK for the 5 speeds and 4 speeds of old, but not the 6 and 8 speed units.

I believe that Mercon SP continues to be the safest aftermarket ATF bet for any ZF 6HP26 unit. I remain very happy with its performance in both of our Jaguars....

Another vote for Mercon SP. It's cheap and is known to work. No point in using Valvoline.

I used Lifeguard6 the first time but if I do another change it will be with Mercon SP.

Found this on my old bimmer forum:

Mercon SP Fluid is a newer transmission fluid made by shell for Ford dealers. Its easy to find online, and it retails for around $4:00+/quart. Things get really interesting when you look at the specs of lifeguard 6 found in the MSDS:

http://www.tsgparts.net/images/pdf/Lifeguardfluid6.pdf and compare them to the specs of Mercon SP:

http://www.fcsdchemicalsandlubricant...ERCON%20SP.pdf and http://www.fcsdchemicalsandlubricant...us175325us.pdf

VERY similar specs, and the same color fluid.
