Default Disable Air Bag Chimes?

Just bought a '03 S Type at auction that had the front SRS pillar bags removed. No warning light but the SRS chimes keep coming on (5 times at start then 5 times every 30 min.) Is there any way I can just diable the Chimes?

Never heard anyone bypassing them so you're #1. When you find out let us all know in case someone else asks in 5 years time.

Is there no safety inspection to get plates in Oregon?

It's sounding like someone bought the car at auction and is hoping to mask the safety defect in order to dump the car on an unsuspecting buyer.

Bad karma.

Just noticed this typo. 'Diable' is the french word for devil. Too funny.

When I worked at the dealer years ago I heard [of a possible method]. I never tried it but that was the rumor.

Each State in the U.S. has it's own rules for safety/emission inspections or regulations and each County in Texas has different emission requirements. Rural areas have NO EMISSION CHECKS.

I don't think Texas has any provision for failure due to an SRS malfunction but I have not lived in a County with strict regulations (just lights, horn, wipers etc.) for many years and I have not done vehicle inspections for the State since the early '80's.

Some States don't even have vehicle inspections (I guess we live dangerous).

You need to replace the safety equipment and not disable the chimes. Shame on you.

uncleboogie,

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums!

Because you are asking for instructions for performing a procedure that may violate federal law, I have edited this thread to protect Jaguar Forums from potential legal liability.

The correct answer to your question is that the airbags should be replaced.

Please visit the New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum and post an introduction so we can give you a proper welcome, and so we can know something about you and your Jag.

Cheers,

Don

The question should be, "Do you know how to find out what is causing the chimes, so that it can be fixed."

I have the chimes also, and I am trying to find out how to diagnose the cause so that it can be fixed, not disabled. Airbags should be your friend.

Does anyone know what tools I can use to properly diagnose the issue?

Does anyone know which airbags are usually the cause?

I vehicle had been in an accident before my purchase. The airbags may have deployed (which ones unknown).
