With which of the gearboxes do you say that's compatible?

Multiple, but the Merc 722.6 for sure as enumerated
in a Mercedes TSB.

Full product name to avoid confusion:

Valvoline MaxLife Dex/Merc.

So... which S-Type?

I was meaning that, after all this IS the S-Type forum!

I think it's: none of them. If so, why put the thread on here?

It is Mercon V, so it is good for the Ford 5r55n gearbox. I used this for the last two oil changes.

Is it? I saw it saying LT 71141 which is not Mercon V is it?

Oddly the OP apparently has the ZF 6HP26.

The safest non-LifeGuard 6 ATF choice for the ZF 6HP26 unit continues to be Mercon SP. It meets the required Shell M1375.4 specs. More and more of us are choosing to use it in our aging ZF units....

If you are interested, you can find info for all cars on Valvoline website. Please post link here if you do.
I used about 2 quarts to add in ZF HP26 transmission.
I am planning to change fluid, that is what I'll use.

How can this stuff be compatible with Dexron II, Dexron III, Mercon V and Mercon SP???

They're mutually incompatible.

I don't fancy it in a 6HP26.

No, we buy the correct fluid at about the same price as your incorrect fluid.

The PDF does claim it's suitable for the ZF.

At least as reasonable as listening to internet experts.

As for the Merc 722.6, since Merc says so themselves
in a TSB, it's a done deal.
