Weeping Transmission Oil Cooler Lines....
Believe what you like but I have had 100% success on another car which was far more stressed over a much longer period of time by following the principle of stress reduction via proper routing of hose to avoid the stress in the first place. As I described earlier in this thread Jaguar designed an almost impossible routing in a very crowded engine compartment. This is particularly so for the engine oil cooling hose assemblies in front of the engine on the 2005 and later R types. I studied that complex situation for many hours whilst on my back hoping to replace the faulty crimp assemblies and hose with a superior system like that of 84 Maserati twin turbo liquid inter cooled car with a pre/post oiling system and an added oil cooler. That system never failed but in 96 I did purposefully replace all of the hoses out of caution. I found nothing had or was about to fail. The system utilized push lock hose and fittings WITH NO CLAPS too! Nary a drop of oil nor failure. But I was scrupulous about routing and hose support. Hoses flexed plenty and had the room to safely do so. The high quality of the hose and fittings along with the room to safely flex and never chafe is what I attribute the success of the systems on that car. That car has been run much harder than my Jag what with frequent track appearances every year until I replaced it with a real race car. We also drove it up and down the west coast of California, in the deserts of Nevada even out to the Silver State open road race one year though not as a participant. My wife drove it to pick me up after the race as I was copilot in a friends car.
BTW this car took 1st place for ALL Maseratis at The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix a few years ago. It has over 70K miles on it.
That environment simply wasn't possible on the STR. So I punted with what I could do and on the tranny cooler lines I added hose length, kept it easily serviceable and that pert of the car was never a problem again. The under the the supercharged coolant hose is very different story. That system is still plaguing my usage of that car ARG!
After $8k of recommissioning that car with a S***load of while you're at replacements it's now got a noisy bearing on the SC after less that 3k miles over 3 years.
Other than that noise, the car drives magnificently ... it should we left almost no stone unturned. Almost ... that was my mechanics assessment of the Super Charger's condition while it was out and all apart. Discussion begin soon with him on this.
The Jag and my new 550HP Maserati Levante have spent the winder together under "the covers" in my driveway since January after successive 2 ft snow storms and were both finally freed last week. Both started up flawlessly after narrowly avoiding damage from two 3 ft icicles as big around as my arm.
