Default what is this? 2000 S type

I will try to post a picture of this lead/line that I found in the trunk of my 2000 S type when I took out the spare wheel. Could anybody advise as to just what this line is and if it is at all important?

Battery vent tube - attach to vent in battery so potentially explosive gases are safely taken out of the boot (trunk).

battery vent tube, BUT that is NOT where it goes. It fits in a bracket on the right side of the battery and clamps down there.

Default battery vent tube

Thank you both for your reply. I take it that the end of the tube is not connected in any way. Just have to find where its bracket is located.

The end with the white plastic elbow goes into the battery, the other end goes through a hole in the floor.

That is probably why it was left unconnected. The battery that was installed does not have a top vent that is easily accessible. That battery has now gone defunct [after only six months of life!]. When I tried to get some help from NAPA [it is a napa battery] I was basically shown the door. Won't be buying a new one from them.

Be sure to purchase the correct battery for the application that includes a vent for the hydrogen gases produced.

I am surprised the current battery does not have a warranty, pro-rated or not.

The battery came with the car which I purchased about two months ago now. Because I did not have the papers establishing that I had bought the battery I was denied any compensation for its early demise.

I have now hooked up the venting pipe to the new battery.
