Default trunk / boot will only open with remote

My 2001 s-type trunk / boot will only open with the remote. Neither the dash button, nor the button on the trunk lid itself will operate the lock. Does anybody have any experience with this issue?

How about with the key?

Also, have you checked the valet button?

The pushbutton in the glove cubby is a manual switch so there is no electronic VALET MODE as such. It simply disables all boot release functions except the remote and key.

There are some harness connectors in the end panel next to the glovebox that might need a 'look-see'.

Motorcarman and JagV8....with my tail between my legs....you are both correct. Problem solved. This is my wife's car. The Glove Box is so stuffed with crap that a little cosmetics box slid over and activated valet mode. It did not quite lock the switch so when I ever I opened the glove box it looked like it was off. When I closed the box, it went into valet mode. I am so glad I didn't start a wire trace today......Thanks to both of you.

Don't beat yourself (or wife) up - at least it's explained and thanks for the follow-up.

I've been chasing wires, probing connectors unwrapping harnesses for 3 days trying to figure out why I had the exact same problem as JohnLeavitt but I can't use the " it's my wife's car" excuse...I simply did not know there was a button in the glove box. I just bought this money pit from some guy that obviously didn't know it was there either...he told me it didn't work. I'm so glad there are knowledgeable people like you who are willing to share. Thank you.

When I went to NP00 (New Product 2000 the S-Type intro) training in Mahwah NJ we had an instructor that pulled a wire to the switch in the glove cubby.
It took us a while to run through the electrical guide and figure out the switch fault.

It is something you don't forget when the fault comes up again.

I have an owners handbook coming so that should help with this sort of thing.
