What to look for in a 'small town mechanic'?
I moved to a small town where there is no Jaguar dealership mechanic or any large mechanic shop like a Pepboysor Sears automotive. The only mechanics in this small town are small automotive businesses and I need to pick one.
How do I determine which to pick? S hould they have a certain piece of equipment to test my car for a 'Crank only, no start, no power to fuel pump condition' that I should verify that they have?
Any advice to select a mechanic for my 2005 S-Type V6?

My first Jaguar mechanic was just an auto mechanic in a small shop. He and talked and we both understood that it may be a challenge but we worked together. However,he had a good understanding of automotive electronics and that was a plus.
You can save a ton of money by buying your parts online, so ask your prospective mechanic if he will be OK with installing parts you supply, and what his hourly rate will be for doing so.
I think you'd also want to ask him what other experience he has working with Jaguars, in particular, the S type.

Are for real or what ? ,
In that same " small town " do you think the Doctor , Dentist or Lawyer , may be up to scratch too , or should you question their knowledge and equipment too !

You might 'luck out' and find someone in a small town that knows/likes Jaguars.
I live in a rural County (63,000 in the entire County) here in Texas and I have people from the area that let me work on their cars. I own and like Jaguars. I have worked on them for 40+ years. I used to work at the Jag dealer and other British car repair shops in the neighbor County (big city) and commuted to work.
Ask around and see if anyone else in the area owns a Jaguar (or Land Rover?) to see if they know where to get repair work or info.
Word-of-mouth might be your best friend.
I've even had people come up to me in the food store parking lot and ask me where I get my Jaguar worked on.................... DUH ME!!!!!
Auto parts stores and gas stations are places to ask if others own Jaguars.
They have to be serviced somewhere???
