Default What is this part? (picture)

What is the part with the red circle around it and what is it's function? It has formed a large hole in the rear of this part. I assume that this hole has been there a while and only noticed it today as I was changing the air filter.
As a temporary fix, I put some duct tape over the hole. I hope it is not too expensive.

Is it permanently attached to the part circled in green or do both parts come as one? Thanks. 2005 S-type 3.0 V6

The part shown in the photo is the air intake tube, which is sold as one part. You can check the part number with a local Jaguar agency: XR815420 or find a used part at a breaker's yard.

Depending on the VIN of your vehicle, there may be a superceded part number.

Since this air baffle, circled in red, is part of the tube between the MAF and throttle body, any additional air entering behind the MAF is unmetered and therefore will cause the vehicle to run lean or possibly misfire.

Default Thank you

When I do a search for "2005 jaguar air intake tube", I only find the part that is circled in green. What is the part circled in red and why is it not included in my search?

The part circled in red is a baffle to change the sound of the air coming into the engine as it tends to be in pulses. The baffle, or reservoir, is used to allow the air pulses to expand into the additional space for a quieter sound.

If you contact a Jaguar agency and provide them with the VIN of your car, they can tell you if this 'air tube' between the throttle sensor and MAF has been superseded with a part that does not appear like the one in your vehicle.

Thanks. It almost sounds that if there is a hole on the back of this baffle, that it is no big deal and does not influence the way the vehicle runs as it only influences sound. Am I wrong on this thought? I did tape up the hole with duct tape though.

Anyhow, I will call the dealer and see how much money to replace.

If it's for air intake it must be perfectly sealed or you get engine trouble. May damage cats, too.

+1 on inlet being sealed since this 'air tube' is behind the MAF so any air entering will be unmetered and cause the engine to run lean or misfire resulting in catalyst damage.
