Maserati, volvo, ferrari, lincoln continental, ford taurus, and jaguar use 5x108.. I think anything over 19" looks very distasteful on a jaguar.. but 20" is the most you want to go before your seriously sacrifice your ride quality..

20" are possible on the S, but it's gonna be a harsh ride, personally I'd stick with 18 or 19's. As stated pcd is 5x108. If you're not buying genuine, watch out for the wheel offset!

djdex,
I too am looking at upgrading my wheels. The offset thing has been confusing me as well. I see that Coventry Wheels lists a 42mm offset for 18" wheels. What offset are you using. The other thing that I am curious about is rim width. I've seen 7.5, 8, and 8.5 rim widths all listed as fitting the car. I'm leaning towards a 18" but might go to 19". Had a loaner S Type with factory 18's on it and was real impressed with the better feel. I too am a little concered about ride quality. Did the "big rim" mistake on an Accord Coupe I had. Great grip but man was the ride horrible.

Josworth - I'm running 18" 8J Mercury's which are genuine Jaguar, The ride is certainly harder than the standard 16" it came with, but the improvement in handling and traction is more than worth it. I don't think I could live with 20" wheels . I believe 42mm is about right for 18" 8J , remember that number will need to change for wider wheels. I'm sure anything up to 8.5J will be fine on the S.

Personally guys, I only fit manufacturer rims to my cars nowadays having had major problems in the past with non genuine wheels needing spacer and spigot rings. If it came off any S Type, it'll fit yours, be careful with X-type wheels, some fit, some don't, and the S is heavier so the wheel may not be up to the load.

BTW: mklund - I was belive that any S-type 4.0V8 IS the sport package, it just doesn't say so anywhere.
