Angry White Car Left Me a Gift

Yesterday an unknown white car left me a parting gift in the form of a mark from his/her bumper on my driver side door. Luckily, I was able to buff it out with no damage to paint or dents. Still, a note of apology would have been nice. I should have followed my instincts and parked in the middle of nowhere to avoid parking lot idiots.

It doesn't matter where you park. Last week I was at the grocery and I decided to park next to the cart corral so nobody would be parking on my drivers side at least. When I came out I couldn't find my car at first. Then I looked again and there was a mini-van parked in front of the cart corral so that nobody could put their cart away and the van was sticking out in the lane about 5 feet. All this so the lazy SOB wouldn't have to walk the extral 50 feet.

A great many people treat their possessions like c%#* so we shouldn't expect them to treat others any better.

Be defensive, park in the South 40................

Not that it matters but may not have been a white car. Most all cars these days have clearcoat. When scuffed, the clear turns opaque or white. A scratch on a dark color clearcoat will appear as a white line for example. Buffing will usually return it to clear even if it doesn't completely remove the scratch.

In any case, I agree that people don't respect others property. And in the case of a Jag, I think some are jealous and do some of this stuff on purpose. When I first started I used to get a lot of Cadillacs and Lincolns that were intentionally keyed. Good to hear it rubbed out without doing any paintwork.

Glad you were able to get out the marks, Mike. As others have said, always park as if you were hiding your vehicle. That's what I do and it has served me well for decades. But my wife isn't as particular about where she parks although she is better about it than she used to be....

I fixed a Benz M type for a rergular customer this summer. It got a crease in the fender while his wife was at the gym. He said she has a habit of squeezing into tight spots to get as close as possible. Seemed sort of ironic to look for the closest spot, to avoid walking, when the purpose of the trip is exercise.

I've been parking in the 'back 40' for years because I'm prone to hitting stuff, by the time I got my Jag it was old habit--and the little bit of extra walking is good for you!

Yeah, I park a long ways off. When ever my now 90 year old mother in law is along she usual quips "Gee, are you trying to kill me!"

And I reply "I thought you knew ..."

Another thing I just love is that even when I park way the F*** out there some ahole thinks to himself "Oh looky there, that car is lonely". It happens all the time.

If you do park way out there make certain it's not downhill from the shopping carts!

The worst part is that it happened at work. I normally park in the covered garage area so spaces are at a premium. I may start parking on the garage roof until winter comes.

I had a grand prix several years ago and had it parked downtown one evening while I was at a halloween party. I came back to the car with a note under the door handle, sorry i think i hit your car while backing out. I looked around the car and had huge dark smudges across the rear bumper corner. No dent or scratch, just scuff marks. The problem however is that I couldn't buff them out because that was a brand new bumper with fresh paint from being rear-ended earlier. I faded it out best I could, but I never pursued after the guy. He left a note and number at least.

Don't get me started on people and there complete disregaurd for others property. It's just one part of the general don't give a S#!+ about anyone buy myself lazy additude that has taken over this country as of late. I cuss someone once a week at least about shopping carts. It's just sad!

Glad it buffed out and you got lucky. Boils my blood when people have no respect for others.
