Default Why is it impossible to find any info about my car?

The internet is useless when it comes to my 2003 Jaguar S Type R. It's like anybody that knows anything about this stupid car is sworn to secrecy by Scotland Yard. I can't even find a picture of the EGR pipe that apparently needs to be replaced on my car; let alone a place that sells it. Stupid car

Its not exactly the most common model in the world, after all ! If you wanted easy you shoulda got a Mustang GT :-)

Just teasing, in hopes of lightening the mood :-)

One of the guys who works at a Jag dealer can probably help with pics and parts.

Good luck

Go to the tech help page and ask for the JTIS download.

Also, If you ask, there a quite a few owners here that will help. Don't get too upset with the car. It is very rare, therefore aftermarket parts people stay away from it. Heck, I was just reading a press release on the '05 S and it states that S Type production had just past 200,000 units. That's from it's introduction. Heck, Toyota sells more Camry's in a year than that. So, even the base 3.0 can be considered a low production vehicle. Exclusive has it's price.

Yep, there are a lot of great resources and helpful folks right here on this forum. Kindly ask for help, and you'll get it from multiple sources including actual Jaguar techs....

Before I purchased my wife's S-Type, like you I was accustomed to obtaining information about our vehicles from many sources all over the net. I quickly learned that Jaguar's relatively small customer base combined with its proprietary grip on documentation meant that information about servicing the car myself was going to take a much more focused effort on my part to obtain. But it's certainly doable, and you don't have to spend hundreds of dollars at the dealership to get the information you need....

Last week, JOsworth pointed me to an ebay link that allowed me to bid on a Jaguar JTIS service manual CD covering much of the Jag line-up from 1995 through 2004.5. I won the bid and the CD is supposedly on the way to me now. All for less than six bucks. You may want to try that approach as well....

Good luck with that. I tried to dowload JTIS on my computer. It's a joke. It tells me that I can't do it. I get an error message. Unable to resolve. I don't think that's the way to go. I want hard copies....

Christo is currently trying to download a copy I posted, and is having trouble as well. My copy just installed without any issues. Let's me print, has all the model info, etc. What error did you get when you tried to install your copy?

I read about all the problems that various members here have had when attempting to download the JTIS information from christo's site. So that is why I went the CD route via ebay. I won't have to deal with trying to import huge files across my DSL connection. I'll simply pop in the CD and it will hopefully come up with no problems. I'll find out one way or the other when the CD shows up in the mail, probably next week. Either way, I'll post here whether the CD actually works. I thought it was worth the six dollar gamble I took to purchase it....

I would rather have a hard copy manual as well. Apparently, that format doesn't exist anymore for my particular car. If the JTIS CD doesn't work for me, the last recourse would be to purchase an Alldata subscription. But I don't know how good or lousy that might be....

I got my JTIS cd off ebay a couple years ago. 1st thing i did was make a iso image of it - if i need to re-install, i just mount the iso. It is the best 9 GBP i've ever spent... well it was actually about $15 from me.

Between the 98 xjr and the 03 s-type r, i've probably saved well over 5k by being able to tackle all the repair jobs myself. Worst of which was a transmission front pump replacement in the xjr. I love working on these cars and that info is a lifesaver.

Another valuable source is parts places that have part explosions. It took me about 30 seconds to get this pic:

Off of jaguarparts.com and tell you the price of the pipe is $115.60

Received my JTIS Service Manual CD in today's mail. Installing it was no picnic, and I actually had to boot up my PC in "safe mode" to get the final piece of software loaded to allow me full access to the service directories. Took me about an hour to figure it out, but once I got everything loaded and operational, I easily found the information pertaining to the 2004 S-Type (the latest model available on this particular CD). Spent another couple of hours just familiarizing myself with how to use it and paging through some of the service sections. Schematics and drawings are very helpful, as are the step-by-step procedures on how to accomplish the various service tasks that may interest you. There are many special Jaguar tools listed and shown for certain procedures, none of which I have at this point. Sure hope that I won't need to acquire many of them....

There's no question that this CD was worth the $5.64 it cost me on ebay. It will take me many more hours to patiently scroll through and study all the sections available that pertain to my S-Type. I'll do that over the next couple of weeks, time permitting....
