Default will not rev past 3000 rpm + p1580 and p1587 need help

so my wife got a 2002 jaguar s-type from a douchebag the guy would only let us test drive it on a dirt lot where we could only go 20 mph and it ran perfect.so we paid the guy his money and parted ways, as soon as we drove it off the lot and tried to accelerate past 3000 rpm it died, it will start right back up but will do the same thing in park or neutral, and a message comes up on the dash(failsafe engine mode),now sometimes it wont die but my throttle peddal does nothing when i push it . i took it to autozne and had them do a diognostics test on it and came up with the codes p1580 and p1587. and i cant for the life of me find a damn book or cd on this p.o.s. i just want to fix it and sell it and take my losses and move on,. can anyone please help me?

Did the douchebag let you look at the pos engine? In other words which motor?

Sorry I could quote and cut & paste but use the seach button above type in "P1580" see what comes up and then "P1587".

Looks like a TPS sensor is needed for the P1580

The P1587 is throttle body replacement time.

Maybe with the TPS sensor it may clear up the P1587 on the pos that the douchebag who would only let you drive on a dirt track sold you.

On a personal note, I would not have purchased that vehicle under that circumstance.

Good Luck and let us know how you make out!

I'll echo Rick here. Never, ever purchase ANY vehicle that you cannot take out for an extremely thorough test drive. That means at least an hour (and preferably more) of city driving, highway driving, and slow-through-the-parking lot driving with your eyes and ears wide open looking and listening for any indications of trouble. I've always found that the best, most reputable sellers will let you take the vehicle out by yourself for at least a couple of hours. The best of the best will allow you to take it home and keep it overnight so you can climb all over and under it in your own good time....

Allenward, bring the f'in car back to the douschbag for him to repair or your money back! Otherwise check the wiring harness at the throttle body, etc. for loose connections.

DID THE GUY AT AUTOZONE CLEAR THE CODES or just read them off to you? Reason i ask is when i first bought mine i thought i would do some preventive maintenance and changing the spark plugs. well with the 3.0 you have to remove the intake manifold to do so. disconnecting the throttle body is also done in this process. i also cleaned the throttle body. when i put the car back together it did what you are saying your car is doing. i thought something was wrong and that i messed up something but i rented a code scanner and cleared the codes and it ran fine. maybe the guy who sold it to you did something similar who knows.

Default update

ok, so i had a mobile mechanic that deals specificly with jaguar cars come to my house and diagnose the car, he said the same thing that you guys are saying, that it is either the throttle body or a bad ground to the throttle body . but he didnt want to work on it because it would be cheaper to take it to the dealership and let them figure out the problem, but i would rather do it myself.but i have no idea how to look for a bad ground in the vehicle.

hmmm interesting a mobile jag tech that told you to go to a dealer.

Do you have a multi meter? If so measure the resistance as shown above.

Auto Zone has a new TPS available for $62.00, or look on ebay for a rebuilt TB for I believe around $250.00.

Tough decision spend the $62.00 on a hail mary or bite the TB bullet.
