Looking for ideas and advice as to what material would suit the bottom of the windscreen plastic trim piece under the wipers. The factory insulation underneath has perished badly and just come apart from the trim. It was factory spot heat melted on. Looks like fiberglass with a black colour top protective layer.
I have a few thin plastic material options that I can cut to size sitting in my garage but not sure if this material in this place must be fire retardant as it faces the engine/heat? It is only a very thin layer of insulation as well. Needs to be as you couldn't clip the trim back in place with a thicker insulation. Must be more for noise suppression and not sure if this insulation layer was present across all of the S-Type variants?
Hell of a noise difference driving the car with the whole trim removed for sure!

I've made heat shields in close proximity to exhaust pipes. I've covered the underhood portion of an HVAC plenum for better AC performance. In all cases, the adhesive sticks like crazy and seems to cure extra strong after exposure to heat.

Thermotec also makes other heat/noise barrier products. Look around the rest of their website for ideas. I highly recommend this outfit, based on my experience. Check Amazon and other vendors for better prices.

 

Thanks kr. Looks like an excellent product, probably ideal for this application. At $628 for 12x50" though may have to give it a miss. Even at an Amazon price. 50" probably still not long enough either....

I have a roll of Ikea plastic floating floor underlay which seems the right thickness and has noise insulation properties but it may not be appropriate in an engine bay.

 

Look again, lol. You selected 50 feet long, not inches.

 

Mmm, think you are correct on that one kr! That would have been enough to do all the S-Types in Australia!
