Default Winter Tire (or Tyre) Report

In two weeks,Sspring (officially, at least) is here! This year I put Blizzack LM32's, which are a low profile, v-rated winter tire on my '05 STR and have spent the season going anywhere I wanted, and never spinning (unless I goosed the supercharger of course). I felt confident on the roads at all responsible speeds and tracked through 5-6 inches of snow with relative impunity. I just thought I'd let you all know.

I remember that there were a few others on the forum who did the same thing here in the northern States as well as Canada and BC. What were your experiences like and did you finally enjoy your S-type/STR all year for a change?

I drove my non-R just a few times in snow on four season tires. That was enough of an experience to convince me that real-deal ice and snow tires were mandatory.

I also fitted Blizzaks on my STR 3 months ago, and it was great to know that the car was going to be active through the winter. Unlike you poor bug#*rs elsewhere, Vancouver had a very mild winter, deepest snow was 2-3". But the previous year, the STR was all over the road on all-season tires with those same snow levels.

Still, looking forward to fitting the Michelin Z-rated Pilots again, any day now.

Thumbs up

My STR is a daily driver all year- have had Blizzak WS70 for 3 years and would not drive the car ( or any car) on all seasons -love the winter driving with snows, it is how I learned to drive and the DSC will allow a bit of fun sliding the rear around corners before it take over!

What sizes are you running? I wasn't aware of a WS-70 made wide enough for the rear.

When I sold my STR, it was contingent on me throwing in a set of new Blizzak LM-32s, and the new owners haven't had a complaint about its ability in the snow and we had a record amount of snowfall in February.

I purchased new alloys and use the same size as the fronts all around- wider is a disadvantage in the snow!

Falken Eurowinter tires for a real snowy winter in Ohio. They worked nicely.

Toledo, Ohio here -- dedicated winter tire user!

I have Blizzak WS70s on aftermarket wheels. Bought a set of factory mud flaps, too - try to cut down on the snow/salt accumulation.

Gratuitous photos:
