I had 7-series BMW that dusted a lot with very hard to clean rims. After trying different approaches, the lesser evil was to accept and live with the dust.

Last time I tried substituting ceramic pads they ended up noisy, ate disks, and had issues with wet braking. It has been at least a decade, so things might have changed.

 

The theory is ceramic pads produce less dust (or its not so dark, so you don't notice it), supposed to be easier on the rotors, and quieter too, so...?

 

Rockauto list them (base, fronts ONLY in ceramic), and I'm pretty sure they don't list things they don't have on the shelf - they've been there for months at least if not longer - I looked when this subject first came up a while ago - also (fyi) show them as fitting the XJ and XK (click on the part no).

Did you try soaking them in Sonax Full Effect, and letting sit on them for 10 minutes or so? I hadn't cleaned my wheels for 3 weeks or so, and noticed this past weekend that there was a small area, which was developing the same rusty color as yours. Sonax removed it and mine are still nearly as silver as new.

I think the reason mine have stayed that way is that I've been using Sonax every 2 weeks or so since almost new.

I think anything other than black or silver wouldn't look good w/ your color combo. Personally, I've always thought bright-colored calipers are a little too "boy racer."

 

Here's another opinion: I think red goes best with BRG.

 

Thanks Foosh. No I haven't tried that, I should. The Calipers are pretty much 80% discolored, I've never seen this before on such a new Car.

I bought my other Car 3 months before the F-Type and the Brakes still look like this:



My Wife drove a 2013 BMW with big Blue M Calipers and they looked brand new when we sold it to get the Jag. So it just seems so odd that the Calipers on the F-Type have turned out this way. The rears are fine btw.

 

That's because your other cars have/had calipers that were painted. The std. brakes on the F-Type aren't.

Try Sonax, but they could be too far gone. I do know that routine use from early on has kept mine looking decent.

 

I couldn't find matte, black, or silver caliper shots, as it's likely too refined / classic / boring for people to snapshot. I find it regal and reserved. LOL

If you can't get enough of bad cars, this Japanese garage celebrating the Yakuzi "stylings" is just too much:

 

They absolutely are, but once you take these big red brakes on the track... lets put it this way, I'd learn to live with the color even if they were pink.

 

Mine rusted as well, but just the fronts. Hornburg Jaguar says the rust is not covered under warranty and quoted $2,000 for replacement of the two front calipers.

 

This is off topic, but a product like G2 Caliper Paint would bring them back to “like new” appearance.

 

Yep, just clean them up a bit and paint them.
I have used caliper paint in a spray can at least a dozen times and never had a problem, $20 or so and you are done!
More if you want decals and/or clear coat on top.

 

I believe the procedure JLR uses for painting the silver calipers is to wave them over a spray can. Not enough paint used to properly coat a nanite.

 

I do not have good things to say about Hornburg.

Maybe try a different dealership.

Just got a quote from Alpha AutoSports in Glendale to powder coat the four calipers for $400. They have 6,000 colors to choose from.

"We fully chemically strip the old coating and add 3 stage powder coating along with ceramic coating for easy maintenance. If booked with appointment it's same Day service."

I'm going for it and will post the before & after pics.
