I purchased a set of aluminum pedals from askew on ebay. His pedals do not come with rubber inserts. I contacted him and he does not offer the inserts. Has any body found a source that has inserts that will fit these pedals?

 

The look very similar to Mina Gallery's pedals. I've always found them very accommodating. You should send them an email; they've always been very responsive to me.

Most don't bother with the rubber inserts as they keep coming out as the foot rubs over them, I must admit I prefer the look myself and tried various types of grommet but nothing no matter how tight it was or what adhesive I used kept them in the holes worked....
But if you are adamant you want to try just look on ebay for something that will do and drill the holes bigger if necessary and have a go

 

I just ordered a set and also like the rubberized look so figure I'll start a similar search when they arrive and I can measure.

Another option (depending on clearance) might be this guy: McMaster-Carr

Combined with some nylon nuts or even threading the holes, it should stay in, although assembly would be labor intensive.

 

Here in the UK the MOT test (and overzealous tester) can fail these pedal sets without the rubber. I'm all for an answer.

My latest idea was to lay beads of black sikoflex on cardboard(trade name for polyurethane sealant) and press the pedals down onto it, forcing the sealant through the holes. then it can be trimmed when it goes off.

If I leave a mm or 2 proud of the pedals it should work, but getting a dome effect would be trickier. Maybe a little cup shape to cap the sealer before it goes off, using water inside the cap so the sealant doesn't stick to it - then trim the waste with a craft knife when set?

I'll have a play and report back.

 

I bought some inserts off of E-bay last year, look at whats offered. I looked in automotive, under door bumpers and rubber bumpers. Look you will find 2,000 to 3,000 listings I found some that worked in packages of 25.

 

I checked the McMaster-Carr web and found one that should work. Thanks Charlie for the lead. I just ordered them today and will post on how they work. I agree with XKRacer on the push in type coming out, but these are attached by a nut as the screw is molded in to the top bumper assembly. A is 7/16" B 1/4" C 1/4' thread size 6/32. Package of 25 is $6.64.

I installed the rubber inserts to my pedals and I think they look very nice. The pedals feel real nice with the rubber inserts installed. The nuts I got were locking type and extra small so they fit in the indents of my pedals. If you want to install these, order 75 of the rubber inserts. I only ordered 50 and as you can see I could have uses a few more to completely fill all the holes in my foot rest. I plan to order another 25 and use some of them for the foot rest and the remaining ones for spares.

Yes, I had to use two round head screws to mount the brake pedal. The rubber inserts screw length was not long enough or strong enough to secure the hardware to hold the brake pedal on. I think I could have used them on the gas pedal as it was not as thick as the brake pedal, but decided to use the same type screw as on the brake pedal as they were longer and a lot stronger. I will be storing the car for winter in a few weeks so I will not be able to get a lot of ware on them until next year. I did try to dislodge a couple of them with a rubber mallet after I screwed them to the pedal and they held OK, so I have confidence they will work OK.

Building on what Bill did I got some of the same rubber inserts and also some studs to increase the length.


Leave out several of the inserts to mark the location on the original dead pedal.


Drill some 7/32 holes in the plastic. You may also need enlarge the holes in the pedal to this size so the stud will pass through. The gas pedal was fine, but the dead pedal wasn't quite large enough.


Bolt it together from the back side.


Install in the car.


I was able to get away with the deal pedal and the gas pedal using the inserts to hold it together but they aren't tight enough I was comfortable with the brake pedal so I used standard machine screws with washers and nuts.

I might come back and put a black screw in, which would make it look more like the others, but for now I think it's pretty good.

After few weeks of using them and I haven't lost one yet, so I am going to pronounce the inserts a success.

 

Good job Charlie. I used black dome head allen screws to attach the pedals. They matched the rubber inserts and look OK. I contacted Mr Askew about adding the inserts and he may offer them with his pedals. I raised my foot rest about an inch by inserting a 1" x 2" piece of wood under it. It seemed to even out the distance between the foot rest and gas pedal. I just put my Jag in winter storage, but I am happy with the rubber inserts so far.

I've had these on for about 3years now no issues driving or with the UK mot,I honestly don't mind the way thay look without the grommets.
