Though have had our F since last August (not driven in our Toronto winters), took my 84 years young mother (not a car person) out for a spin. She was not impressed! Too low, too loud, cannot fit her walker inside, and not anywhere near as nice and comfortable as my sister's (lives on Vancouver Island) 1st generation Kia Soul. In full disclosure my mother says the same about our other rides. When I try to explain to her that the bumpy streets here are due to the fact that Toronto's roads (subject to winters) are nothing like Vancouver Islands smooth, never see frost roads, she does not believe me. Hmmmm...... wonder if I should see if the local Kia dealer will give me good trade-in value......

 

I took my 84 years young mother (not really a car person either) out for a spinn in the F-type right after we bought it. The only car she can remember ever to have noticed when she was younger was the Jaguar E-type. Once that was her (and my father, who has passed away) dream car, but they could never afford one - and then I came along and they needed something with rear seats


She absolutely loves the look of the car, and she thinks the seats are great, the sound lovely and the power intoxicating


She is thrilled on our behalf, and so happy that we could afford what she and my father could not.

 

Tonight as I'm leaving the pharmacy I hear a really loud and kinda awful sounding exhaust noise. I look over and it's a Camaro with an awful exhaust on it. As I get into my car a gentleman of perhaps 80 years who is walking by motions for me to roll my window down. When I do he says:

"I don't know why you even looked. You know you could take him just from that sound."

LOL

 

Probably texting a photo....but yes the behavior in general gives me cause for concern when people maneuver through traffic to see and photograph your car. It has a paparazzi following!

 

First time anyone said anything to me about the car and it was an older gentleman at the petrol station filling up. I get out and start to pump the petrol and I look over in the lane next to me is an old E-Type. The gentleman smiles and says you know son this is the grandfather to that. I said yes sir and he pulled over to the pump and then came over to me for a brief second. He said he bought the car new and will never sell it because of the sentimental value. He starts looking at the inside of mine and says I would rather have yours, I'm like really? Yours is the original and he said yeah but the handling and modern technology kicks that old cars a$$.. We had a good laugh then I had to run off because there was a line for petrol.. Thought it was a funny story.

 

It is. Great story of two fabulous vehicles.

 

I'm dropping off a friend after dinner, putt-putting in first by a large group in a parking lot. I have the top down. As I drive away I hear "man I really like that dude's car." I wave in the rear view mirror and then I hear "oh he must have heard us." Uhhhhh top down? Yikes.

 

I was at the local auto specialty shop today, getting a NAV-TV installed (thanks, Joe). After the work was done, the salesman came out to the car with me to demonstrate the system. He was very curious about the car and we talked a bit. He mentioned that he had taken a picture and sent it to his wife. So, I asked what she said. He chuckled and said she said "I hope you're putting something nice in my car."

 

Was cruising across the Sydney Harbour bridge at 2am Sunday morning and had two very custom Subaru rice rockets fall in around me, one in front and one beside and I was a bit worried about what was happening as they were being very intimidating but after a couple of minutes I real died they had a high spec video camera and were filming my car, Pheeewww!

 

Car definitely gets a lot of attention. Mostly from bros in civics and middle-aged men, which is not my target market to be honest but whatever.


I had an odd encounter recently...some little kid at a gas station asked me if my doors opened to the side or up. I automatically pictured Russ Hanneman from Silicon Valley raising his arms and started to crack up lol

 

These aren't the doors of a billionaire! LOL!

I hear you though on the bros and middle aged men. When I got the car my GF asked half-jokingly if I was planning to start picking up random girls. I told her if I wanted to attract girls I'd get a puppy. All a nice car attracts is other guys.

 

I have found this to be the biggest misconception guys have about cars, that they attract women to you. More often than not, that is the first comment when I'm approached by a random guy on the street... "hey man, you must get a lot of tail in that thing!"

Well, no... but I have concluded that picking up men, if one were so inclined, would be like shooting fish in a barrel.

1) There's no question - from personal experience - that most dogs (and, yes, of course puppies) attract the opposite sex far greater than any damn car. As well they should. I can "forgive" a woman for ignoring my F-Type but my dog...never!

2) This morning I dropped into my local police department to deliver - cliche though it is - two dozen donuts as a thanks for doing what they do and to introduce myself to the Commanding Officer (who provided me with one of several police escorts during the Lobster Run). Besides his remarking what a stunning car it is, he said something along the lines of "it must be extremely difficult not exceeding the speed limit". Not sure what he meant by that.

 

Did you tell him you never exceed the speed limiter?

 

He's just trying to get you to admit you speed on top of the delicious bribery charges they are surely about to hit you with. Plead the fifth!

 

Plead or drink the 1/5? (Not while driving of course). It's always been my policy to put law enforcement on my side, even if - especially if - I don't always strictly obey the law. Boy do I have stories...

 

I looked him in the eye and said, "officer...". He got the message. (I know better than to incriminate myself). I don't wish to boast but you can't imagine the things I've said - and didn't say - to avoid getting a ticket (with tremendous success). Then again, I think you can...
