hi all did some searching and did not find any information on this. My MAP sensor went bad so I removed the intake manifold to replace the sensor. when I removed the manifold and as I tilted it back I had oil come out of the hole the MAP sensor was in. also found that the MAP sensor was covered with oil. I did replace the PVC valve before this happened. I found something about cleaning a orifice in the part load breather in the left side valve cover, but I have a 04 xj8 4.2 liter and this engine does not have the orifice. the orifice was in the older model. the reason I replaced the PVC was it looked like it was passing oil. any ideas on this would be great.

 

i just finished a weekend of cleaning all the oil from my intake in my s type r , and decided to fit a catch can , i would recommend the same !

 

That sound lie a good idea. If nobody can give me a way to stop this. do you have any picture of the catch can?

 

yea sure . this catch can is one I've borrowed from one of my other cars . its not mounted permanently , as i have a smaller baffled and filtered one on its way that will mount on the side of the abs pump bracket right beside the breather !

this is a mishimoto compact baffled two port oil catch can from ebay , still yet to arrive.

 

I just ordered one now I will have to find a place for it.

 

you will need a length of 14mm id vacuum proof / oil proof / heat resistant hose to plum it . my can arrived today ,
damn fast shipping , it went across the globe in 5 days to my door !
you will have to make an adaptor or use a hose tail to connect to the plastic factory pipe. the fittings on the mishimoto are 13mm . 14 mm will clamp down fine .however i used 13mm and it was a sod to get on the breather fitting but can be done .
i did try to mount it on the abs pump bracket but was to close to plumb it .
i purposely mounted it high in the end , for two reasons .gravety oil return from what oil the pipe stops,
and easy to empty the can. witch i think will be pretty regularly , the d1 can had about 30mls in it from 3 days use about 200km distance .

 

Thanks for the info on hose sizes,that will help a lot. today I had a old pvc valve and I took it apart to see how it worked. I found that it has a diaphragm that could act as a pump as it works. I think it looks like a bad design.

 

Datsports, Couple of quick questions please - where should I try to source the hoses and is there an advantage to having a long run from the PCV Valve to the Oil Catcher and then back to the inlet, or is yours located more as a matter of available space?

the hose i used is reinforced hydraulic and scavenge oil hose . i purchased it from a hose doctor supply out fit.
i think there is no advantage to length .
as you say available space is one thing .
but also access ability is the main thing , as the catch can is a serviceable item .
and must not be over looked . so the easier it is to drain the better .

 

On my X350 I mounted mine on the srtut bar. Still have to get the larger hose to fit properly.
