Smile ((New XK8 Owner North Carolina ))

Hello everyone.. I am the new guy it would appear and looking some answers as soon as the light is green to do so.. I bought a beautiful 2001 XK8 with low miles.. Sapphire Blue with White Leather Interior.. I am loving the car but I have little things that need to be attended to obviously..

Convertible top has a busted line located right at the pump itself.. Facing the Hydraulic clear tank.. It would be the line top right running back into the car.. I would lo e to know what part of the car it runs to exactly.. I can not find any info on this in skematics..

The interior is Immaculate.. Rims look great.. The car was well taken care of.. And a patch job was done on the hose prior.. But it's time to make it right..

This is a new picture of my Jaguar Xk8

Look forward to learning a lot of things here over time.. Great Forum.. Thanks..

Shawn Powell

Loving the New Jaguar and the color combination.. My favorite of all Xk8 colors and interior..

Hello, Shawn,
What a Beautiful car!! One can expect a few unpleasant surprises from Any car 15 years old, but I'm sure it can be all sorted out.

Yeh, I learn a lot already.. But to be honest.. To sit in a car that is 15 years old and still have the desire to turn the radio all the way down and just listen to how quiet it sounds and the way it feels for an hour straight on the ride home from the beach the other day.. That alone really says something right by itself.. My little boy that is 9 likes it as much as me.. I enjoy it with the top up just as much with the top down as well..

I took the hose for the convertible yesterday and cut out the end where the previous owner had done a major messy somewhat patch that still leaked.. It is at the pump itself right at the hose connector.. If I had to have a place for this to happen it seems to be the best place for it.. I ran the line up inside of the connection clamped it pretty snug.. Then I took another hose and put over the connector and ran down about 4 inches from there over the beginning of the hydraulic house and then used some clamps to hold that in place as well.. I flushed out the pump and ran new oil back into it.. It is going up and down faster than I have ever seen it.. It looks to be a clean repair but I guess time will tell.. I did this later yesterday evening.. I will get some pictures posted IF this appears to hold over time.. I have another thought if it doesn't.. But the second hose over with the two clamps really was more for holding it in place snug as much as anything.. But a nice little safety for overflow as well if any was to take place.. At any rate, it loos a 100 times better than the glob of apoxy that was there before I did the cut and my repair.. : 0)

Now the only thing the car is having issues with is the passenger rear window.. The little triangle that seems to have jumped track but gets caught up and stuck about half way in the process.. Takes playing with the top button for it to get released.. I try to do one repair at a time and stay focused on each one to make sure it is complete before going to the next one.. : 0) So I will tackle this one in a few days hopefully.. : 0)

But the car is solid and we are enjoying it even more than I thought I would..

This is a picture of my Camaro that I fixed up as well.. They sit beside each other in the driveway now.. It gets a lot of attention as well.. : 0) I figured someone here might like to see it as well.. I did everything to it also..

These are the pictures I took after redoing the steering wheel myself, the console and the seats.. The Jag looks great inside and out now..

I used Caulking for anything that was hard and stable like the steering wheel and top of the console.. I let it set for a day .. Took 600 grit sand paper and made it fine.. Then sprayed over it with a 100% color match dye and she looks great.. Inside and out..

Default Thanks for the welcoming..

I will have to say that I was not expecting to enjoy everything so much with this car.. The transmission feels great.. Cornering feels great.. The leather feels snug against you and you actually want to simply turn the radio all the way down and just enjoy the car itself.. It's what a luxury car suppose to feel like.. And she gets attention..

I actually had wanted to go with an Arden body kit and some 19 or 20" rims.. But I will have to say I am enjoying it too much just like it is.. I am use to modding the mess out of cars like my Camaro.. But I always do it in a tasteful way.. I may actually have to let this one sit a little longer before I start in on modding at all..

I took pictures today of the convertible top fix I made at the pump itself.. I cut the section that the previous owner had apoxied the crap out of.. The fix cost like $4 from the local hardware store.. 3 hose clamps and two pieces of hose.. And I have been using a Dawn bottle for washing dishes to make it very easy to add the hydraulic fluids into the pump reservoir.. I went ahead and put the disc changer back in under it and it looks to be a good fix.. The disc changer I don't use.. I have all Alpine speakers and head unit as well.. It was done previously.. I have several Alpine head units laying around and all of them would work with the Alpine inet cable.. I think it would be the same for the disc changer.. IF I really wanted to use it.. But really no need for it these days with DVD and MP3.. : 0) But I like the car to look like it is suppose to in the trunk.. So today was a good day for putting that back together..

I still can't post messages for questions so I HOPE someone sees this and can help me.. I have a 2001 XK8 and I am need to replace the hydraulic line from the driver side ram to the pump.. I found some but they all state that they are for 97-99 and that 2000 - 2006 have a different part number.. Are these all the same? I mean the pumps are all the same for all the years.. Would the hose really be different? I need to make sure before I purchase the line.. Thanks.. Part # HJA8253AB Thanks..

Hello, welcome Shawn, and greetings from down under.
Perhaps I can help you get started on posting . . .

This New Members Area is used to post an intro about you, your car etc and you have done that. For technical questions about your Jaguar, you need to aim at the model specific forum - in your case the XK8/XKR (X100) forum.

Management considers it prudent to keep the half starved, grossly underpaid, poor wretches who are burdened with our tons of technical answers well segregated. As you may imagine, the peril of these poor deranged souls inflicting members with incorrect model info, makes this segregation mandatory - and a good reason for adding your MY & variant to your sig. I trust you will understand.

One final plea . . . despite their pathetic begging, NEVER EVER FEED THEM! Some years ago, one very appreciative Jaguar member offered "thanks" by way of a roast meat sandwich. From these morsels, Hannibal developed a most unwelcome taste for meat and the poor chap had to be put down. So, please restrict yourself to using the "Thanks" button supplied!

Best wishes,

Ken
