Default P0153 1 month after replacing the o2- is bosch just the Lucas of today or what

So today on the first or second long trek since replacing my o2 got a p0153 (02 sensor slow to respond) CEL. Should I be contacting Amazon for a return or do you think it is just wearing in? Might have 500 miles or so on it in a month. Any better choice out there the Bosch who seem to make everything that I need to replace on my British cars but have yet to replace anything made by that price of darkeness!

Chances are you'll probably need to get another 02 sensor. If I were you though, I'd clear the code and do a hard reset and see if it comes back. I myself have always preferred Denso above all others. If either a Denso part wasn't made for a particular component for which your replacing or if it wasn't available, then Bosch would be my second choice.

Denso is OE -- did you get an exact fit replacement?

I'd contact Amazon and ask what they will do. May be able to get an exchange. I've had good luck with both the chat and phone:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/conta...%26skip%3Dtrue

All they can do is say no. O2 sensors don't wear in.

Hi TreVoRTasmin,

The first question that comes to mind is whether you had any other diagnostic trouble codes besides P0153 that might aid in the diagnosis? It seems highly unlikely that two different O2 sensors would fail in the same way. P0153 can be triggered by a number of issues.

Here's the relevant page from the DTC Summaries manual showing possible causes. Note that HO2S failure is at the very bottom of the list:

You can download the entire manual at the link below courtesy of Gus and his website, jagrepair.com:

2000 AJ27 DTC Summaries Manual

If your scanner can read Live Data, you can observe the outputs of all four O2 sensors to see if there is anything unusual about the output of the Bank B/Bank 2 upstream O2S. If it is responding in a fashion similar to the Bank A/Bank 1 upstream O2S, then it would be worth investigating some of the other possible causes of P0153.

Another test you could perform would be to swap the electrical connectors for the Bank A/1 and Bank B/2 upstream O2 sensors. If you still get P0153, the O2S is not the problem. If you now get P0133 (Bank A/Bank 1 upstream HO2S sense circuit slow response), the sensor or its attached wiring harness is suspect.

P.S. In general, it's prudent to use an O2S of the same brand as the engine management system, but since Bosch is one of the premier makers of O2 sensors (certainly no less so than Denso, NTK, Delphi and ACDelco), there's no reason to suspect your new sensor is a dud just because it's a Bosch.

Cheers,

Don

Trevor,

Have you observed the Live Data or tried swapping the electrical connectors for the two upstream O2 sensors?

Cheers,

Don
