MKII guide- information
HI Forum,
(63 MKII 3.4 auto)
I have purchased an old look radio to keep in theme with the era of the Jag ( M2C-114-03-73 Model Two - w ipod chrome usb and ext audio)
the car current has a modern radio where an amount of the 'console' has been removed to fit the radio. In this case it looks like i may need or best to replace the console face with a new unit and have the radio fitted. - so here are the questions:
Q- I was thinking of a Walnut cover to match dash trim in place (any guides thoughts?)
also looking at a steering wheel for the MKII (have the original) but looking for something more sporty in keeping wth the period as well - any pointers?

check the "Tourist Trophy" steering wheels sold by Moss Motors in California. Made in wood or leather, standard or thick Grip, black or aluminum spokes. Excellent quality, Made in China.
Unless you want to spend $500.00 for a Nardi...
I installed one in my S type, black leather / black anonized spokes / thick grip. My hands are big, I got tired of thin steering wheels.

yes, you would need a steering boss and horn cap in addition to the wheel. But I am sure they sell them all- as does SNG Barratt.
Reference your center console question- I would have to see pictures, but you have a lot of options. You can fabricate a new metal panel to attach anything back there and cover it in leather or veneer. I have chosen to go lo-fi with a vintage radio and center speaker. But there is a lot of space back there between the two.

yes, they sell the boss / adapter too, you can use the boss for the E type, same splined shaft as all other Jags.
I made my own Horn Push because the emblem they include is very small and tacky. I had a spare growler emblem from a Momo Olympic steering wheel that I installed in my XJ-6, very high quality emblem in black & gold, as seen in the picture.
in the XJ-6 Momo wheel I used the Leaper emblem.

recently I purchased a used Momo-Italy all wood / thick grip / 15" steering wheel because I want the left and right spokes to be at the 8 o'clock and 4 o'clock marks, and the Tourist Trophy has them at the 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock marks, blocking the gauges.
Seems like all other brands of steering wheels have the spokes at 10 and 2 o'clock except Momo.

I really like to Moto-Lita Derrington , it keeps the existing horn push which I like.

Had a Motolita in my MG-B back in 1970, the lacquer started peeling off in a year.
and I still have the 1969 MG-B's steering wheel, all 17" inches of it, intact. Notice the spokes at 8 and 4 o'clock, as it should be.

Nice- yes looking at the few options - this is a MKII in Aust so has aircon fitted- so not sure how much space i really have - bit at least i now there is a radio currently fitted

There is a difference between the kits you can buy and do yourself and having a leather cover sewn on. Having it done will make it look like a leather steering wheel, and you can get custom thicknesses. www.dallassteeringwheel.com/about.htm Dallas steering wheel is highly recommended in the Porsche world. I have used Alan Gun Leather Associates (Plantation, FL) and been happy with the results, but their reviews are hit or miss.
This is probably a cost effective option if you don't like the thin slick wheel or it has cracks in it you want to cover.
