installed 4 inch air intake to oem airbox,cleaned engine bay




i removed the label and covered tube with fiberglass wrap,sealed with silicone spray







exhaust manifold heat sheild with exhaust wrap,both inside and out,right now i have a temp of 350 with ceramic coated manifolds,cuirious to see what the differance will be

Rear wheel bearings and partial fix of the emergency brake, so that it does not stick and rub, but it also doesn't work

Installed a new gear knob I purchased on ebay. My first impression was it looked kind of too shiny and a bit tacky. Maybe I'll remove it again 🤔

The original is black leather with a silver stripe

installed the oem heat sheild

with a layer of thermo-tec exhaust tape ,inside and outside,the temperature dropped another 100 degrees,for a total of 245 degrees measured with my lazer temp tool

I removed 20 year old window tint, replaced my headliner, and a handful of missing or broken interior fasteners. Also pulled about a dozen door dings that were so severe that they looked like vandalism. Primed and currently block sanding for paint.

repaired and reinstalled heater pump

heater pump now woks again for a total of 8 dollars for the brushes
cleaned and vacumed



freshly opened,ton of brush dust,no brushes,just springs



new brushes installed



file used to rub oversized brushes onto, until small enough to fit into golden brush containers

I had been having trouble with squealing drive belts. So I replaced both belts and the idler pulley. I thought that I had tightened them up enough but still had squeal on starting up. Searching the forums I read the discussion about deteriorating crank pulleys so I wondered if that was the problem. I was planning on marking the pulley as described in the posts. Of course I've been dragging my feet for months. I was looking through a new copy of Jaguar World magazine and they ran ran article on servicing the XJS V12 motor. What interested me was the description of how to check belt tension with the old V belts and the newer flat drive belt. They rec commended that you twist the belt in the middle of the run with your fingers. It should only twist one quarter of a turn.I checked my belts and both belts could almost be twisted all the way around! Pushing the belts up and down I thought that they had been installed tight enough but I was quite wrong. Using the "twist" method gave great results. No more squeal! No need fro a special tool. Quite satisfied. Now on to the bushings!

That's a good "shade tree mechanic" tip for the v belts. Good to know!


I've got to replace my SC belt soon as it squeals under high RPM.

I've also used a "krikit" click tension checker to tension the belts. It is cheap and easy.

I replaced my J Gate micro switch with a new one I ordered from England. The hardest part was drilling out the old studs it was anchored with. Not like anyone would ever want to change a $5 micro switch in the future so, they attached it so it can't be removed! :-0( Once out I put the new, much smaller switch in with mini-screws and nuts and it works as new.

Replaced the fuel filter. It wasn't nearly as difficult as had been made out for a change. Usually the "difficult" jobs seem to turn out to be even worse than suggested

I replaced an AC Delco filter with a genuine Jaguar part and replaced the two o-rings.

It was MUCH easier to blow through the Jaguar filter than the AC Delco unit, so perhaps it will flow better, although that may not be a fair test since the AC Delco filter was still damp and the new Jaguar filter was dry. The old AC Delco filter had been on the car for at least 40+ thousand miles and almost 3 years, as that's how long I've owned it.

Also noticed that differential drain plug seemed to be weeping, and I was able to turn it a few degrees tighter without much effort. So maybe that will stop the weep.

I have a set of used XJR injectors with Jaguar Fuel Injector Service and hopefully will get them back before next weekend.

Mr. Faircloth from the injector cleaning service called today to provide a report on the results of the cleaning, which is great customer service. He was able to turn them around in just a couple days.

Summary...The deviation is very slightly high. 3% is typically the max. However, I don't think it warrants buying and/or sending further injectors to test and match.

I have replaced the upper and lower o-rings and the filters.

Will box and return ship on Thursday.

Also received my new Bosch fuel pressure regulator today and other misc parts from Terry's Jaguar to remove the intake, etc. in preparation for cleaning the throttle body and intake tract. Terry's was also great to work with and provided very personal service when trying to fill the order and deal with items that were no longer available.

Yeah, I told him that I had pulled them from a wreck, so he didn't think that getting "before" flow results was that helpful since the goal was cleaning them and making sure they met spec. Not a problem, but it would have been interesting. Plus I was in a hurry, but normally he would have.

installed 3m di-noc carbon fiber wrap onto air pump,and abs...,engine bay is looking much improved,cant wat to paint the cam cover,extra wrinkle black with carbon fiber on the coil pack cover,and fuel rail cover.
