Default it's not the fuel pump, it just acts like it is

Greetings from frustrationville, Tx!
My 98 VDP just got a new fuel pump a month ago. Was running fine. Then it would not start. We didn't gear the pump turn on, so assumed it was faulty. Set it to the side for a weekend removal. That weekend, the jag started up! Repeatedly.
we attempted to take it to church sunday, no fuel pump sound, no start.
We replaced the filter. She lived once again! Drove her Sunday evening and yesterday. Took her to town this morning, let her sit for 2 hours, back to no start and no sound from the fuel pump.

All other electrics are working. And she TRIES to start, you can just tell she's not getting any fuel.

Any ideas?

The pump relay may be failing.

Because my jag is sitting in a parking lot, I swap tested the relays for the fuel pump with the brake lights. The relay seems to be fine. Either relay works in the brake light slot, but neither in the fuel pump slot. Which tells me the relays are fine, it's either the electricity to the board the relay plugs into being faulty TO the fuel pump relay slot, or its something else .

Did you put a 'jumper-wire' between contacts 30/87 or 3/5 (however the relay is marked) in the relay box??

That will force the pump to 'run all the time' if the 'relay-on' signal is not present.

I carry a 12 gauge wire with male spade terminals in ALL my vehicles so I can eliminate faulty relays if I need emergency GET-BACK-HOME.

I'm wondering if it's the wire inside the tank to the pump itself. I'll run home and get my multi meter to test for power at the relay, and if it's there, I'll check the wiring at the pump
