Cruise Control Not Working...
My cruise control simply does not work. It doesn't do anything. Any experience with this, or any ideas on what could be causing the problem? Any help would be appreciated....

The cruise is managed electronically by the ECM so all the many sensor inputs have to be within expected range for cruise to work. Any number of faults disable the cruise control. Do you have any Check Engine Codes?
No there aren't any codes. I have had the odd "ABS/Traction Not Available" a few times. And two or three "Restricted Performance" codes, as well. The dealer tech attributed them to humidity change and cleared the codes. Since, I have had no codes.
You might check the switch on the brake pedal. I have had non working cc on other cars and it just needed the switch adjusted. One thing you might try is to pull up on the pedal with your toe and engage the cc. Thats how I found the problem on mine.
Just a suggestion, good luck.

any issue with other buttons on the steering wheel (radio controls)? if so you could have a bad "clockspring" which is basically the wiring transfer from the steering wheel to the steering column which can deal with the rotation of the steering wheel. This went bad on a lincoln LS I used to deal with and the cruise/radio buttons would intermittently function.

Did the brake switch help? Considering having a play with mine since CC isn't wanting to do anything.

Hi just went through same problem. Changed brake pedal switch now all works as it should. its a simple change over. unplug remove nut and small bolt pull switch downwards then reverse procedure put bolt back then plug in done, it only takes 10 minuets easy job jrb53
I'd also second the brake switch, especially with the message being posted. I had this issue many years ago in my first XJ8 and after removing and cleaning the switch I never had the issue again. Getting at the switch can be awkward though, it's attached to the brake pedal but a single small nut.
I "third" the brake switch suggestions.
Another thought is that if any C (Chassis) codes have recurred related to your ABS/DSC system, cruise control may be inhibited and these codes cannot be read by many generic OBDII scanners that only read P (Powertrain) codes so you may not be aware that they are flagged.
Also, the cruise control system is full of vacuum lines, fittings and a vacuum tank, and there are three solenoids (parts 1, 2 and 3 in the diagram below). Leaks anywhere in the system, or a solenoid that is stuck in the open position, could cause the cruise control to be inoperable:

Hey guys,
I wanted to say a massive thank you as after changing my brake pedal switches (literally a few minute job) my cruise control is now working as it should. You have made my motorway journeys much less of a pain and the probability of getting a ticket with 400bhp a lot less likely.
