new 215-65-16 front tyres as fed up with slight contact of spoiler when going over speed humps for which there is loads and loads and all different heights
Alternator is now in pieces. Case prepared for blasting. Checked my bracket from the 77 XJ-S would accept the bolt: no, the 120 A alternator had a larger screw (10 mm). So I drilled the hole a little larger.
PAS pump is separated again. Case will be resprayed, dent removed. New rubber rings. Then refit.
Also tested the belt order... I think when they are due again, I'll take the radiator out for the job!
Among some others, I finally set that right exhaust tail piece at the right angle.
Both clamps failed trying to remove them. And, at least around here, no one sells these style of clamps. Anyone know what they're called?
Its a solid steel band that is stretched out on one side to hold a internally threaded collar. A small hex ( torx? ) screw would go through this and pass through the hole made for it in the tailpiece to press against the tailpipe securely. The bradded on collar for the screw spun in its hole. That was fun to get off.
I put a 1" long 5/16 18 stainless bolt in it with a nut either side of the strap. Snugged it down tight and lock it in place with the outer nut. I would like to replace these clamps if anyone knows what they're called or where I can get them.
While I had them off, I cleaned both tailpieces. They were pretty nasty.
Even after they were "clean" they had some bad discoloration. Rust from somewhere above them.
But I guess these are stainless! They cleaned up real pretty.
When I drove her to the auto parts store for clamps without the tailpipes in place, I was really shocked at the difference in the exhaust note! These not only greatly reduce the exhaust note volume in the cabin, but without them it really resonates in the body spaces around the rear of the muffler. Very throaty. Probably a bad idea carbon monoxide-wise but sounded like I'd swapped the rear mufflers out.
Sometimes life just goes your way. Went to the junkyard to get an AAV... happy that it looks fresh and had an rtv seal so I'm hoping that's going to fix my funky idle... side note, the car had this Nardi in it. Didn't want to just leave it there.... 🙂

As far as the model it looks very similar to my 89, judging by the dash, radio, and switches? But I'm pretty sure they looked a lot alike for several years. Just not sure how large a spread in years. I like the wheel, did you get it while you were there and if so would you like to sell it? It's a lot nicer then that big thick rubber one in mine.

The XJ-S there is older as the skislope is all plastic and differently shaped. I'd say 86.
But U think he asked more so what model the steering wheel was

I took my alternator body to be sandblasted. Can't refit a filthy dirty old 115A in my car...

Ha, yeah I meant model nardi. The car itself is a 76'. I'm putting the wheel in my 88'. I'm wondering if I should rip the heads off of it to sell or possibly up the power on mine someday...

The reason is that, without the tail pipes, the exhaust ends within the tunnel in the bodywork. This allows the tunnel to resonate, much like a trumpet, when the exhaust pulses exit the back straight through silencer. Anyone who wants to try this out for themselves, just remove the tailpipes and go for a spin.
Well with the ridiculous prices of everything it might be worth attempting in a day. Not sure what it's like in Europe but finding junker xjs's is not easy.

Here in Germany it is impossible to find any XJ-S on the scrap yard. VW, Benz, BMW, Audi, Opel, Ford, ... Standard. A Jag is rare. XJ-S unheard of.
Tis maybe a US forum, but these vehicles here are manufactured by her Majesties approved motorised coach builders
