So I had my battery unplugged for a half hour or so today and when I plugged it back in i got check engine light on. So when I checked the code it said vin not programmed or incompatible. I did a little research and I've seen this can be cause by my car being flashed with the eurocharged tune? Which is absolutely ridiculous because I got it done spring of 16 and the battery has been unplugged many times since then. Why Now? And any thoughts?

 

What was the actual code, Pxxxx, Uxxxx? what did you read the code with?

 

A simple cheap reader. Nothing special... like i said this code came on after plugging the battery back in. Never seen it before

How lovely.. So I have the threat of this happening everytime I have the battery disconnected from the car until I sell it. I have an E-Diff fault that likes to come on for days or weeks at a time then off for a a day or two. Jaguar says it's the actuator in the diff that's broken. 1891.00 repair.. I'm not convinced it's that and therefore I'm not readybto throw myself 2k more in debt to go on a wild goose chase. Now this !! 55k miles

 

So this begs the question for all of the tuner folks. Is this common when you disconnect the battery or is it just a issue for some tuners.

 

That is a big chance you take when you let someone hack the code in your ECM. Who knows if the system looks for a check sum, or something else, when it does a fresh boot? Or does the hacked code write, or not write, something somewhere it should or should not? Without the source code there is no way to know.

 

It's a pity to be the only one with such a fault and also with a tune. Might be coincidence. Might not. Go back to standard and see if all is OK.

 

OK and the next question should be , is there anyone with a tune that has disconnected their battery and after re-attaching it not had this problem. It could be isolated to this tuner or the way they installed the tune. Or maybe a specific vendor SW.

 

Did the code / CEL come back after clearing the codes? If so then don't worry about it.

If it did come back then try disconnecting the battery again...

This code is related to the Car Configuration File (CCF) not the engine tune. The CCF does not get modified when a tune is flashed to the car using one of those tuner tools, it's separate to the engine tune.

A copy of the CCF is stored in the PCM, and the information within the CCF is broadcast on the HS-CAN network as well, if the data in those two versions don't match up, it could cause this code.

It's most likely that there was a hiccup after the battery was reconnected, and the PCM was a bit slow to boot up and did not report back the VIN at the requested time.

This fault could occur with a dead-stock car, it's most likely got nothing to do with having a tune in it.

If the fault won't go away, then uploading the CCF to the car again using the dealers diagnostic tool would be the fix.
