Transmission shop called , the car's ready ! The A-drum had given away & it was totally rebuilt w/ the forged upgrade & pressure regulator valve. Total cost $2,200, now I know for sure all these cars' major "hot spots"(tensioners,A-drum,t-stat housing, etc.) have been addressed in mine, so I have that piece of mind going forward !

Let's hope not for a while as my contingency fund took a significant blow w/ this repair lol.
I hope the best for you and your car... Mine likes to 'play' with me. One day it will work Luke a gem. The next day a new clunk. 2 days later the clunk is a bang. 3 days later it has gone again. Next day you look under the car. All is fine. The next day rubber hanging off the wishbones where there used to be a bush The list goes on and on...

Mine's been pretty drama-free so far it's been minor things, maintenance & preemptive strikes. It only logs maybe 3,000 miles annually so it's not like it's abused lol.
Really glad it's back as I have been relegated to driving my Nissan Sentra. It's ironic the tranny waits to fail until I get rid of my previous toy/daily driver lol. Also happened after I addressed the majority of my "to-do" list (paint,ABS module,shocks,t-stat housing, pipes, knock sensor etc.) Only thing left on my list is front tie rods, ball joints & change the rear differential.
That's good news King Charles, now everything is sorted hopefully you can get some enjoyment from the car. I had the transmission valve replaced with the updated one as soon as the car's renovation was finished. There is a notable difference from how it was before, a good difference as far as I'm concerned.
When you drive one of these cars with everything in good working order, they really are a special thing. Mine is 15 years old now and there aren't any squeaks, rattles or noises she just glides along the road in a very dignified and gracious fashion.
Not mine but close, the brother just picked up a 1998 XJ308 3.2l (badged SE which is interesting as they are supposed to be a 2002 only model?) felt it was a bit down on performance, he has a X300 3.2 so has a direct comparison. Just happen to have a Seagate scan tool so dropped that on and hello 69% at full depression. Something not correct here. Check for slackness and no all tight under the bonnet, however the pedal has about 3/4 to 1” of free play.
The cable has a cable tie around the fixing of the outer sheath, cut it off and remove the square retainer. This allows the outer cable to move about 1/2” tighten that up relocate and recheck woohoo 100% full throttle. Much better
Car's back & she's purring, every shift is buttery smooth !
Here's the guilty culprit/usual suspect lol. Tech. said I saved them ample grief & myself money by shutting the car down instantly keeping the whole body from being riddled w/ debris.
She's now due for a thorough wash & leisurely cruise !

I'm sure you're happy to have her back on the road! If you are still in the New Bern area do you mind sharing the shop you used to rebuild/fix your trans? My Dad is in that area and has an X308, so it would be good to know of a trustworthy shop, just in case....

Ok day 2 on new transmission state, I'm noticing a "warble" on downshifts, it's like a wobble mixed w/a small bump. I'm thinking it's just the new friction plates & drum meshing . Only thing I changed was taking it out of "sport mode" which the shop apparently put it in to test. Maybe sport mode's meant for me. But I will have it looked at, if it doesn't clear in 200 miles. It's warrantied work, so no worries but I am super alert right now, so I sense everything lol. The blessing & the curse.

In with the new out with the old. XJV8 replaceing the XJ6 both 3.2. Auckland to Kirwee averaged 27.4MPG against 34.4 for the 318 BMW. Both traveling at the same speeds.

Today I took a trip down the coastline & the previously noted "warble" has worked it self out. She's running as good as ever ! Although upon exiting, my inside door lever failed & my cable needs to be replaced ASAP.
The one I found on E-Bay will take until next week to ship to me. My question is can I use one from the rarely used rear doors on the front drivers ?! I've searched the forum & there's some saying yes it will work, & some saying no ?!
