Did both front wheel bearings again today, to finally render the car driveable again. Went to put the new antenna in, but realized I tossed the retaining sleeve somewhere in the midst of everything, and I'm too tired to look tonight. New brake booster should be here Monday, hoping that will let my right leg get a little more rest when driving.

Turkey baster removed as much power steering fluid as I could, it was really compromised. Filled w/ Lucas & it's quieted all my turning noises which I mistakenly thought were coming from the rear. It's odd how the acoustics in these cars throw sound around.
Serpentine belt,pulleys & J-gate,cruise/sport mode lights on deck for tonight or tomorrow.
Getting her ready for a mountainous snowy escapade in West Va. next week.

have installed new rims with 285/35, 255/40 universal all season tires, installed new lowered coil springs and also installed electronic remotely controlled exhaust cut outs , what you all think ?

Tensioners Done
After reading the many posts on the disintergration of the timing chain tensioners and guides, I decided to change out my '99 VDP parts.
Although it has 74k on the clock, and the motor was quite from cold and hot, I talked myself into this preventative mod.
I ordered the parts from SNG Barratt, the tensioner kit, water pump and thermostat housing, all in all it cost around $775 plus shipping.
My mechanic, who noted that this was like taking my own food to a restaurant, said he'd do the job for $1200 cash.
I ended up paying $1300, as he said the "O" ring seal on the thermostat housing leaked so he had to remove it and seal it with silcone sealant.
I'm so glad I did this mod, as what I found was alarming, although not as bad as some that I've seem on this forum.
Even the water pump plastic was disintergrating.

I'm currently having the drive line center carrier bearing replaced, as well as flex couplings, and rear transmission support.(scheduled for Tuesday).
New tires on Thursday.
And then I plan to replace the timing chains, primary and secondary tensioners, waterpump/thermostat housing etc.myself
I am driving the car as little as possible in anticipation of doing the tensioner upgrade, but need to address this ASAP!

Like many others I suffered the dreaded 50-70 vibration problem. Initially I assumed it was tires, but deep down suspected it was more than that. And after reading HighHorse's post on the subject of the drive line center carrier bearing, I investigated further. As per HighHorse's experience, I found the center carrier bearing to be "worn', and some minor cracking of the two flex couplings, and also discovered, like HighHorse, that Jaguar does not supply the center carrier bearing, rather they suggest a complete drive line (approx $2,000). Once again, following HighHorse's advice, I sourced the Powertrain Industries 3080-25 bearing unit, which is an OEM fit, and had it fitted today. A long story, but we fitted the center carrier bearing first, then road tested, it cured 75-80% of the vibration. Then we fitted the two flex couplings, and also the rear transmission mount, and presto, all of the vibration was gone.
The parts removed really didn't look that bad, the center carrier had some slight rubber de-lamination, and the flex couplings showed some minor cracking if looked at closely, but this just goes to show how age and minor deterioration of these parts can cause such problems.
If you have 50-70mph vibration that you feel through your seat, and it feels like it is coming from the front, no the rear, no its the tires, etc, etc, suspect the drive line parts.
That done, I then fitted new Pirelli Cinturato P7 tires this afternoon. After just the short 12 mile drive home this evening they seem smooth, quiet, and firmly planted, I think I'm going to like them.

Are you referring to the Grand Tour episode? That made me angry too. The 420 was needlessly destroyed by the petulant cretin that is Richard Hammond and the XK was again destroyed without reason. I’ve said it before but I hope the6 cleaned up all of the mess they made when they smashed it down the cliff.

Well my belt,pulley & tensioner repair lasted one brief test drive the night it was done. Tonight when I started it, I heard something being twirled around, thumping on start-up.
I'm sure everything was the correct size etc.
Of note, the new pulley & tensioner I used had no lip on the rim, is that problem ?

Would the new belt & pulleys on the old tensioner bracket/spring cause it to clatter as it adjusts to the new tension etc. Like a "break in" period if you will. My whole point of doing this repair was to quiet down a slight clatter on cold starts & if this trend doesn't cease, it's worse than before lol.
If the noise doesn't clear there's an OEM tensioner w/ bracket new on E-Bay for $100.
Of note the belt looked new & the pulleys were cruddy,one did seem to have in & out play when pressed & tougher to spin though.

Hit everything really good with a lube spray, it's whisper quiet as of now, we shall see what the next cold start brings !

Do you guys really think that the cars shown were in a good condition? If you pay close attention, the XJR had a saggy headliner, the bonnet had no clear spray, there was rust on the wings and the interior was in a rather bad condition. The screen was also cracked IIRC.
The 420G was rotten beyond repair. How else would it basically buckle upon landing? The 420G is a very solid car. Watch them banger race em... You'll see what I mean. For it to do that, it had some major structural issues.
The XK8 was at the end of it's lifespan. I remember someone saying it was involved in some illegal matter and was not technically allowed to be on the streets. So it had to be destroyed.
The XJ6 and XJ-S both survived with very little problems, apart for the standard Teves ABS lockup.
