Default Where to get this gasket? - RESOLVED

I have a 2002 XJ Sport. Already has the aluminum thermostat housing. A while back, I replaced the thermostat. The thermostat cover,(where upper radiator hose goes to) had a gasket but I broke it. So, I cut one using blue fel pro gasket maker. It started leaking at a very slow rate.

Without risking me cutting a bad gasket again, anyone know where I can get the gasket from? I have searched and searched. Yes, 100% sure that is where the leak is coming from.

Happy holidays everyone

Non - Supercharger:

Supercharged :

https://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/u...8-supercharged

Use the jaguar part # and see if one is closer maybe Welsh in Chicago , verify VIN # as I believe there is a changeover

Is there a difference between the metal and plastic housing ?

+1 to Lady P., Welsh is pretty good at having those kind of things. You may also want to try XKs Unlimited - Classic and Modern Jaguar Auto Parts Specialists since 1973, they've been good for those parts also and decently priced.

Thank you both for the response! Weird, it doesn't show up on either link. Here is the gasket I need. That was after I cleaned the old gasket off.

Hi Brandon,

The thermostat and seal are common parts offered by most of the major suppliers (Waxstat, Stant, Gates, Motorad, Murray, Mahle, etc.). I've purchased them from local auto parts stores like NAPA and O'Reilly. If they don't have one in stock, they can typically get one within a day. If your stores can't get you one, any of our forum sponsors should be able to, including Welsh Enterprises, Coventry West, SNG Barratt, and Jagbits.

Cheers,

Don

Not the thermostat o ring, I have that. When I get home, I'll see if I can find a pic of the gasket.

The parts break down do not appear to show a gasket, only ‘O’ rings. Are you sure that you require a gasket there? I can’t see why a manufacturer would use an ‘O’ ring and a gasket, one or the other normally.
Perhaps a PO thought it needed one? The extra thickness of a gasket may be holding the clamping force off the ‘O’ ring?

I have NEVER seen a gasket in the thermostat housing. Part number 5 is ALL that seals the coolant in the housing to cover. If it does NOT seal, then you have a warped/damaged housing or cover!!!

Yours leaked because of the gasket. If you iinstall it with just the rubber seal around the thermostat and tighten the bolts slowly and sequentially so that the faces stay parallel it won't leak.
A lot of the aftermarket kits have that paper gasket but it useless and not needed.

A added mating surface face gasket thickness dimension reduces the pinch of the inner seal # 5 . In the big picture , I would go without the phantom gasket . Just my opinion with no experience on this area of concern for whatever it is worth .

That, sirs, is why this forum is so valuable. I think it saved me close to $3000 in the three years I owned my last unit.

Amen. I'm on the vette(c4 section) forum as well, and both forums have helped me A LOT. Thanks again.
