Default What is this module

Ladies and Gents,

I was doing some electrical troubleshooting on my 76 S2 XJ12 and came across this module. I have no idea what it is and have not been able to find any info on it. There seems to be another one mounted under the AC box in the dash but that one was unplugged. does anyone have an idea?

That is the climate control unit to operate the servo and vacuum components.

Any idea why there is 2 of them and any reason that this thing says "RACE" on it? I'm trying to sort out wiring and tagging everything as I go
thanks

Race! ... Wow...you've got the rare experimental race box that adds 150HP. Congrats! No...Seriously...they all say that, perhaps its the brand. These typically fail and were difficult to remove so its most likely that the old one was simply left behind. If your climate control works consider your self fortunate. These boxes often fail and replacements are difficult to find.

that is the A/C Amplifier.

they left the old one under the a/c in place because it is a pain to remove it, so you just disconnect the old one and connect the new one.

We all do it.

Soon after Nix came to live with us, a Series 3 appeared at the local wrecking yard. I wanted the blowers from it so husband and I spent the next month or so (whenever we had time) taking the car apart as carefully as I knew how, to remove the blowers and their boxes, and anything else I thought I might eventually need.

I tried to be careful, Jags are rare in wrecking yards in this part of the world (especially Series Jags) and I was trying to be considerate of others who might need what I didn't. Everything I removed stayed within the cabin if possible and I tried not to flat out destroy anything; not ripping it apart, but carefully disassembling everything (this also taught me how my own car comes apart, some things NOT found in the Blue Book!).

I happened upon this stair-step component, Deep in the guts of the center, had it out in my hand (I think I even unplugged it), but as I didn't know what it was, I left it there. 3 days later, having learned what it was, we went back, but someone else had already found it and taken it for themselves.

I might have felt bad, but my Climate Control seems to work OK, and maybe theirs didn't.
