On Monday I flew from NYC to Atlanta and bought a ultra low milage, 35k, 1996 XJS in sage green. The car was in great shape. I then, starting at 3 pm by the time money was exchanged and temporary plates were put on the car, I drove it 13 hours or 850 miles home. I drove through the Great Smoky Mountains to get home, but much to my surprise in mid April there was snow. I made it home with 30 minutes to spare before my youngest son's bus dropped him off for me to get him.
The car is in great shape with only two minor issues that need fixing. The passenger seat's power motor does not work. The seat jolts a little when the button is pressed but it does not move back or forward. The seat tilts up and down though. I'll do some research or ask for help under the proper section.
The motor is more than strong and hummed along great, however when shifting lanes at 75 miles per hour the seating felt a little wooly where you needed a good grip on the wheel to ensure you could shift lanes. I'll start looking at tire pressure, bushings, ball joints and work my way to the steering rack and such.
Pauls jaguar. I checked several options and didn’t want a full set of metalastic style or all urethane I wanted some of each. In the end a phone conversation with Jeremy let me put together exactly what I wanted. Premium quality metalastic for most, dense neoprene for steering rack, better than urethane. Got front and rear subframe bushings and engine mounts too.
I bought greases for my jaguar.
1)kroon oil 4x400gram : I hope it will be enough to lubricate all suspensions wheel bearings, u-joint , etc.
2) ate brake cylinder pasta.
3) ceramic grease : anti-seize.
I finally removed the stub axles from the front hub uprights. They had a slight lip where the rear bearing race sat; I'm not entirely sure it is worth replacing them but 1 huge hammer later & it's too late now!

Good to have done it. That tiny lip will create a knock believe it or not!
Ohhhh,,, did my water pump (3times, lol) last fall. Good and deep digging!
Today - Need to do a thread about each of these but,,, chasing speedometer problem, oil pressure gauge problem which all seemed to end up with the instrument cluster. Then, passenger side mirror motors - left to right works but up and down tilt motor on the mirror I think is dead .... In all of those problems, I have 12volts or near, everywhere... Not pretty or fun BUT hey! Got work thru all this.
I will be dropping her off to have the drivers side floor welded in TOMORROW,,, yaaaay!!!! Fixed my trunk light switch.
Also need to know how to deal with rich running at the ecu... The little dial...?
Oh, water proofed my top. That felt good. Did my xk8 as well. 2nd or third REAL Spring day here. Thank goodness.

It is far more likely that the crappy little connectors, or the actual joystick, are the trouble.
If you unscrew the mirror, and CAREFULLY pull out the loom, you will find the connector. Tie something onto the non-mirror connector half so it cannot fall back into the door. Then test the mirror motors by feeding 12 volts into the prongs (from memory the + and - for each motor are vertically orientated about the connector engagement plastic M/F prongs). If that proves all good with the motors (which 90% chance it will), next test the loom side of the connector by getting someone to move the joystick while you wield the test light/meter. Clean the connector anyway, and using a tiny cable tie,, strap it together so it cannot fall apart.
If no current to the loom connector, test the joystick and its connectors, which requires the doorcard to be removed.

That is because it is a piece of fine art, as well as a car. You can say exactly the same thing about a sculpture or a painting.
Walmart has 5 quart jugs of Castrol 20W 50 non synthetic oil for only 18 dollars! That’s 9 dollars cheaper than Autozone. I drained the oil, replaced the filter, and filled with 11.9 quarts of fresh oil. Inspected all the hoses and belts, topped off all fluids. My 91 XJS V12 Classic Collection Convertible, in Diamond Blue metallic, runs great! This is my 3rd XJS I’ve owned. The others being a cabriolet, and a coupe.
