Have tried the cassette/ aux adapter, works but not really any good sound quality, so...has anyone here added a aux input to the original Jaguar car stereo by soldering aux cables to the output signal ports on cassette/radio "motherboard" ?
I know its not an aux port, but it accomplishes the same task. I added bluetooth functionality using this: https://www.discountcarstereo.com/a2d-jag98.html to great success. The music streaming quality is excellent and you retain CD functionality when you want it.
They also have another version which allows phone calls that many in the forum have also used.
THis thread may give you some input. Look toward the last couple of pages, and you will see how he connected input using the CD changer input selection.
Also a photo of how I connected mine in my 2005 XK8. It's an Alpine system. Black wire is Ground, Red and Yellow are Left and Right Lines In. I soldered them where they are for convenience, but the come off Pins 3, 4 and 5 from the left, counting along that row of 20 solder points.

thanks all! really lots of information when following up on the links, will have to read up a little more I think(more than 1h reading up so far...), tempting with a plug in kit like discountcar's sell, a bit of a faff with the shipping/import though since i live in Sweden, read that some stock Alpine adaptor(ALPINE KCA-801b) might work, but discontinued and hard to find,
I had a car radio technician hard wire an aux input to factory head unit. We used a blank seat heater switch plate to install the input with small micro switch to select Aux or AM/FM/Cassette/CD Changer. Allows me to use anything with 3.5 “ jack iPhone, iPod etc. Working great for 10 years now.
I added a DAB receiver to my car, that plays out through the original stereo, and that has an AUX input as well, so I got DAB and AUX in one go!
That sounds like a great solution. Do you have any photos of the installation and please can you share details of the receiver that you fitted? Cheers!

I don't have any photos, but the unit is mounted behind the glovebox because there is a switched 12v power outlet just inside the a-pillar (it's the power source for fitting an additional 12v cigarette lighter-type outlet in the glovebox) and it's also convenient to run the coax wire to the back of the stereo. The DAB unit has a 3.5mm stereo jack input so I ran a lead from the unit into the centre cubby box, but you could run it anywhere.

having not followed whats going on with audio for a long while.... so alrigth let me see if I get this, your'e adding a DAB by wiring it up to 12v, signal in to DAB "box" is either the FM antenna coax or the Aux?, and signal out from DAB box is the DAB-coax that plugs into the original head unit? how would you rate the output quality of the sound from the DAB box(with any source, DAB/FM/Aux)? better than tape, equal to CD changer? the DAB unit does it work with the Jag antenna? or does it need another antenna?
Cheers!
edit, ordered the kit, apparently one needs a DAB antenna aswell according to installation instructions for the DAB box, takes a week or so for shipping/import(UK has left the EU ), so will try this and see how good a sound quality it produces, if this fails then it'll be gettig into soldering...and that seems scary and perhaps only for the brave...
Cheers!
edit again...for anyone looking to bye this kit, look for it at ebay.co.uk, quite a bit less £ there,

Can confirm the KCA-410C is still available and works really well.
I have the alpine boot CD changer and im on with an al-net extension cable splice. (when i have time!)
Iv an old cd changer and i cut off the pig tail (female) and got a male extension from ebay, using both to make the extension splice.
This way, (once made) you dont need to open any thing up to solder wire's to anything.
May not be the way you want to go, but some photos that may help you, or others.
Thats as far as i got with the extension cable splice..
I will do a full write up when its all done (no time right now to finish this project)........
Ok, did mount the kit, all went well(for once, wish I could say the same for the new headiner...), sound quality then? not to bad at all, haven't tried switching(with same audio on both) btw aux/CD just yet but I'd say CD is better, so happy with the result, did not fiddle around with the DAB stuff(did hook up a DAB arial though), no point really since DAB is only available at the moment in big city regions here in Sweden.
recall a member asking for how to connect the wiring, here are a few pics, basically power spliced into the cig lighter wiring(if key is out so is power to the DAB unit), and cables tucked in at left side of carpet, DAB antenna mounted at right rear window
Cheers!
DAB unit going into/behind head unit, I tucked away in there to the left(car is LHD) black is earth, red to blue/white(+) on the cig power connector,
Just picked this up at WalMart, it was by the checkout stand and works pretty good for streaming from your phone and more importantly making calls. $8.99 with charging cable.
