I'm constantly having to re-adjust my passenger side mirror. When I unlock the car, the mirror moves!

My battery has been changed when I bought the car about a month ago, I read somewhere this might have something to do with it?

I tried to look in the handbook "How to set" the mirrors, but could not find solid info anywhere. Not even on the net.

I move the "adjuster" to the left position, then set the left mirror, then to the right position, then set that mirror. Then back to the middle. Is it supposed to be all done now? How to use the Memory button 1 and 2 settings? Hope anyone can help with info.

The car have a few light scratches that I think can be buffed out without having to do an expensive spray job. Can someone please advise where to get this done in Toronto and how much it will cost? There is a particular scratch that's on the hood that's ugly, I tried Turtlewax with no result - it did not work at all even though I followed the instructions on the bottle to the letter.

The leather on the back seats are tired and brittle, I expect from baking in the sun. Any advice on how to/where to get it replaced economically or is a seat cover the only way to do it economically?

Is it really essential to use expensive high octane gas? Anyone filling up with unleaded lower octane with good results & performance?

Regarding your mirrors, adjust left and right to how you want then look at the bottom end of that switch panel press the one marked #2 and then press the one that says memory you should then hear a sound like bling? That sets the memory.

For the mirror problem, I'm fairly new to Jaguar but in any other car I've had it had to do with the memory settings. So I'd focus on that. And from my understanding premium fuel isn't absolutely necessary but there must have been a reason Jaguar recommended it. So why go against that? It's only like 10 cents more a gallon for premium.

 

I'd guess it is the memory that is moving it back to the pre set position.
Do you have a manual? If not you can download from the sticky section.

To set the memory put everything where you want it press the memory button until the red light comes on then press either the 1 or 2 button until you hear a ding.

Then post an intro in the new members section.

 

What fuel does your owners manual say to use?

Re your ugly scratch - If its deep, it may be an RDS ( Random Deep Scratch ) test by running your fingernail across it............does it catch?

If so probably no amount of detailing will minimise that and that section would requre a respray to fix properly.

 

The instructions are in the owners manual, with illustrations. To set it, adjust everything to the position you like. Press memory. Press 1. Done.

This is a frequently discussed topic. Use of lower octane gas will not harm the engine but may (hence the debate) reduce performance and increase consumption. The jury is out.

I'm learning that too much of a black/white answer tends to bring out those that believe the opposite and we beat that poor horse yet once again despite no new evidence to present.

 

I guess I will never understand people who buy a car with a high performance, or high compression engine which should have high test fuel, and then want to burn cheap gasoline in it.

Sort of like the guys who buy Corvettes and want to put on cheap tires, because a set of good tires is "expensive".

Maybe I'm just old and crabby.

 

The difference in price from 87AKI to 91AKI in some parts of Canada can equal $13.00 per tank. It's not unusual for a driver to go through 2 tanks per week.

For $100 per month in potential savings, I see no problem in asking the question 'what if' to those with actual experience. I'm sure if the response indicated that there was a serious downside the OP would be doubly glad that he had asked. As it turns out- there is no serious downside and none at all in many cases like my own.

And I put tires on my Corvette that are commensurate with it's performance.

 

Although Jag says my STR tank is 64.8 liters, I don't recall ever going much over 50 liters to fill up, even from the red (empty) zone. Let's say 55 liters max. For $13 per tank, that would mean a price difference of 26.3 cents/liter between 87 AKI and 91 AKI.

I thought BC was expensive, but here the price difference between 87 AKI and 94 AKI is 17 cents/liter. Where in Canada would one find a bigger difference?

 

LOL...I go through $120.00 (2 fill ups at $60.00 each) a WEEK! I have a 70 mile round trip to work 5 days a week and that equals one full tank but I count the refill for my 2 days off.

 

When it comes to the scratch as mentioned it depends on how severe it is and how comfortable you are working it out.

Like JimC64 said if its deep and your finger nail catches, then its time for paint. Even if your finger nail doesn't catch it as old as the car is you may have very little clear left and may end up doing more damage then good.

Personally I would get a light polish/scratch compound from Meguiars or Mothers and try that.
