Hi guys,
i'm brand new to the forum, so please go easy on me.
I've seen a Nice 1998 Jaguar XKR for sale in the Gold Coast. Who would you guys recommend to do an inspection?
Thanks,
Richard

I’m from Sydney as well so cant recommend anyone up there however a couple of things to do first
1. Revs check
2. Write off check (a lots af cars are getting rebuilt after the floods)
3. Dealer Reputation. Not saying they will be shonky at all but the dealers area means more than normal caution.
Might be a good idea to join the JDCA in Sydney then contact the Brisbane club for help/advise
Good Luck, happy hunting
Cheers

Welcome to the forum Rick.
What sort of inspection are you looking for? RACQ would offer that sort of thing?
Or if you want someone who knows Jags to have a look as an enthusiast, there are a few QLD members here on the forum, not sure of anyone specifically on the Gold Coast.

G'Day Richard,
Service History...always the service history. If you need a Jaguar type person then the Jaguar Car Club are approachable with chapters in all states worth an ask.
BTW I lived on the Gold Coast and never found any.

Yeah I guess I could do an RACQ check. But was hoping for more of a Jag specialist.
I don't need photos and a full report. I'm happy to be helped out by the car club, or a Jag mechanic specialist.
I'll try the car club and go from there.
Cheers,
Rich

Get Michael from independent Jaguar workshop in sandgate Jaguar Mechanics Brisbane | Jaguar Service, Repairs, Parts to look at it
I actually live on the Gold coast and have a Jaguar XJR6 95 model after 3 years and 6 grand on mechanics down here on the Goldy I was about to take it to the tip
Michael and Niles got it going right first time he is not the cheapest around but price is soon forgotten when you get the right job he also has the factory IDS software so if it needs diagnosing he can do it instead of taking guesses
I have now bought a X350 XJ8 took it up to him to get it checked out last week he gave it the thumbs up he is also next to the train station in sandgate so I drive my car up get the train home reverse for pick up very handy

Have you had a chance to check it over. It does look sensational and is exceptionally well priced. Check service history especially that tensioners have been upgraded as has the water pump.If it is not sold I wouldn't too much waste time thinking about it but check it out quickly. I don't know of any Jaguar specialists but as a reference Monaco Motors 78 Farrington st, Alderley ph 07 3552 0500 or contact Les Hughes editor of Jaguar Magazine in Brisbane on 07 3349 0322 who will be only too willing to assist.

Welcome to the forum Rick.
Although I'm on the other side of the World, the items to check on an XK8/XKR don't vary with geography.
As the guys here have already mentioned - Service History. Absolutely critical when assessing a potential Jaguar purchase. Question any gaps very closely.
In addition to finding a local expert, the https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ts-data-29800/ thread will tell you a lot about the particular weaknesses of this model.
Hope the deal works out and you're soon posting details of your 'new' Jaguar.

My XJR6 came with a full service history by a well renowned Sydney company it was only last year that by accident we discovered what the problem was not to mention genuine octopus hoses leaking from the binding twice also so service history is important but so is the type of guy servicing it
Just my personal experience my new to me X350 XJ8 is spot on it also had a full dealer service history but when I took it to the ZF approved transmission guys it had never had a service original oil at 165,000 k,s on the clock do you know what one of these 6 speeds cost to rebuild I do
So no matter what it is always a risk
I understand these risks and that's why when looking at these cars its the price and history
I could have paid quite a bit more for a similar car like my X350 XJ8 but the price was the bit that got me as I knew I would be spending some money on it just for my own piece of mind
I just ordered new O2 sensors all 4 of them am also planning on changing the cats as well
I will also replace the map sensor and maf sensor as well as plugs all filters and am planning to change all the oils and fluids have already had a transmission service including a full fluid flush just so I know where its at regardless of its full dealer service history

HI Ric 106,
Regarding Docs advice to see Michael, I would most certainly disagree and suggest you see Brian at Monaco Motors over at Alderley.
I took my car to Michael and all I got was a supposed summary of works to be done for my car which cost $200 and a vague look suggesting he didn't really care about my project. Essentially wasted money!
After using his recommended tilt tray service , who was late on both transits and somewhat stoned upon arrival 2 hrs late to pick up the car!
you can certainly get better help elsewhere.
Monaco however were far more professional and approachable and certainly closer to you at the GC.
Michaels shop is 8 minutes from my house, Monaco is 35 mins away there is a good reason as to why I drive all that way across town
Cheers, hope this helps you in your decision making.

Just shows different people have different experiences
Like I said you will find one sooner or later hopefully he or she fulfils your expectations
There is a guy at Oxenford who is a X300 specialist I hear Wilkinson is his name on Siganto drive
My XJR6 does not need anything at the moment except time to drive it its on the trickle charger in the garage with a cover over it and my X350 is next to it also on the trickle charger with a cover over it next to my motorbikes also on trickle chargers with covers over them
Like I said just need time to drive or ride them LOL
