Stalling's frustrating club of Jaguar x300
Dear friends,
It is frustrating...
Since several months ago, my jaguar x300 3.2 sport stalls anytime. It can be while I'm running slowly by a calm street or while I'm running by motorway to 100-120 km/h. Suddenly, the RPM falls to 0 and engine died. Afterwards. Engine won't start. Engine tries to start but doesn't do it. I have to try many times to get engine starts.
I have replaced:
- 6 engine coils news
- 6 new spark plugs
- Crank position sensor (new)
- COolant temperature sensor (new): LHE1600AA
- A new MAF (with the new MAF the idle was more unstable and stalls more easily).
- A used Throttle position sensor from other jaguar x300
- a new Idle control air valve
I dont what happen... I don't know what else to do.
It is very very frustrating. I love this car but it is a big problem of security. I have done and check every things but i hate this situation yet. Anybody have any idea??

.......You can swap the fuel pump relay with the Accessory or rear window heat relay in the trunk which you may have a floating contact on the fuel pump's relay . Or to eliminate the controlling circuit that pulls the relay coil you can hotwire direct power to the pump . This cuts your problem in half on the fuel pump delivery . See link post # 30 . Relay location page 19 on attached file below . Another thing to consider is the fuel pressure regulator as they fail and don't last forever ( 65 dollars ) . Don't forget the fuel filter first before regulator . Both I would consider scheduled replacement items . Do you have access to a ELM327 engine live data graph reader as you drive ?
" When RPM falls to 0, engine remains start for 4-5 seconds. "' Are you saying RPM drops to zero ( as on zero or moving to ) as the engine has not stalled yet ? This is a very important distinction as it points to something . There is a designed dampening or slowing on the needle that can throw you off as you read it . Is the needle on zero before the engine ?

Swap the headlight or fog for the ECU relay in this above example . They are all part # LNA6707AA . Spray will help get them out easier for they get stuck . If you were to tap in all directions on the original ECU relay in the headlight position as you swap you may see it fail and flicker without going on the road .

Does this issue sound like its the same as yours? It ended up being the camshaft sensor.

Dear Vee,
I don't have that problem. In my case, the engine dies suddenly without any check-engine or other warning light. Yesterday i exchanged the fue pump relay for the heat rear window relay as Lady Penelope showed me. Today i have traveled 30 km/h without any problem. I have been in the mechanic shop (specialist in electrical misfire) and they have connected their PDU for jaguar and no-code error. It's frustrating. I wait to next days to know if problem persists.
Thanks you!!

The camshaft sensor tells the ECU where TDC is for rapid starting. If failed or unplugged, the ECU has to guess and you may crank 30 seconds or so before getting a light-off. However, the car will start and run with the sensor disconnected.
Since I don't understand the exact mechanism at work when failing coils cause the IP to flash on and off, I would not dare suggest that a wonky camshaft position sensor "couldn't" cause this problem, but from a design and function standpoint, it "shouldn't," therefore I remain dubious....at least until ThriftyShirt reports a resounding success. Based on the thread, that can't be assured until perhaps 2-3 weeks AFTER he fits the new sensor and re-engages it as a daily driver.

Today i have exchanged the fuel pump relay for the heat rear windows. Yesterday i left the car in the mechanism shop. They used a Jaguar PDU and no-code error appeared. Today i hace drove about 30 kms without any problem.
I will wait to the next days to check if problem is solved.

Dear aholbro1,
I have replaced the fuel pump relay and i have drove aroun 100 kms and the car hasn't stalled. I think problem has been solved, although i want to wait a little bit more to be sure.
What do you want to say with your last message?? that although i have replaced the fuel pump relay, will the fuel pump fail??
Thanks

Dear friends,
I have run around 1000 kms after i replaced the fuel pump relay and my jaguar x300 never again stalled while i ran on highway. it was the problem.
Now, i have got the problem of the stalling in idle or low speed when engine is hot. Jaguar x300 stalls all time when the problem start when i stop in a traffic light, stop...
When engine stalls, i turn key and it start again but a little later than usual but starts without problem.
As I said before, i replaced:
- 6 engine coils news
- 6 new spark plugs
- Crank position sensor (new)
- COolant temperature sensor (new): LHE1600AA
- A new MAF (with the new MAF the idle was more unstable and stalls more easily).
- A used Throttle position sensor from other jaguar x300
- a new Idle control air valve
It is very very very frustrating....i want to have a great car in perfect condition because i love this car but it seems impossible....

Might be a symptom of low fuel pressure . Did you replace the fuel filter ? I tapped a small line into the outlet side of the fuel regulator to see the 43 PSI at idle . As Aholbro1 was recommending on the dying fuel pump from experience plus I always had engineering callouts to change the relays at the same time as some of the AC not DC motors on aircraft . A pressure gauge would confirm before changing the pump .
Try wiring direct power to the pump because there is a possibility that the swapped relay is no good .
If the fuel pressure does not drop below 43 as you drive around , might consider cleaning the injectors .

inboard and next to the throttle body shaft tower with a 5 wire connector . IAC valve is aft of the tower with the 4 wire connector . The IAC has a gasket from what I have read leaks but is very hard to get to the one bolt too close to another Item , I had to pull off the TB to get to the bolt .
