Default Boot opening on its own

Hi all - here is one I haven’t seen before…occasionally after starting the car the boot opens…I either hear it or see the warning message…it’s very random…wondering if anyone has seen this before…I’ve checked the boot button in the car, on the boot, and on the remote and they seem fine and not sticking…I am wondering if it could be module related? My next step is researching which modules can trigger a boot opening message to the boot opening mechanism …it also doesn’t seem to make a difference whether the car is on or not

When you say “after starting the car”, do you mean while still stationary or after starting to drive?

I have experienced the latter on very rare occasions and always put it down to the trunk having been closed but not fully/tightly latched. I think it appeared to have been closed and was down enough so that the Boot Open warning light didn’t display on the dash but the first bump in the road would see the light come on and lid unlatch.

Could it be one of the boot hinge wires shorting out?

Yes I am thinking a short of some kind maybe a wire or in one of the modules or the switch on the outside of the boot

The issues happens when the car is on or off…I hear the trunk release actuator disengage the latch so it is like something in the body control processor is receiving the “boot release request” to unlock the boot.

Some examples of when it happens
- I unlock the car with the remote and I hear the boot disenagge a few seconds later (it’s random)
- I am driving along and it unlocks ( which is weird as I thought there was a min speed disable to unlocking the boot)
- I am sitting in the car with it running or not running and the boot unlocks

On my first 308, in 2002, it was opening all the time: the tech (a young lady) checked the loom, the fob, the lock; suggested I was inadvertently touching the boot open button on the Fob when I was trying to start the car. On my second, in 2013, never happened. In this third one, occasionally when using the original key and Fob that came with the car; never with the second key which I got from a locksmith. It appears I occassionally inadvertently touch the boot open button on that Fob.

The wires over the boot lid hinge are known to break, I'd be looking there for something shorting as vibrations move things about.

I have on occasion hit the boot button with my knee when getting into the car, and sometimes while driving depending on how fast I'm going in a curve.

Maybe the fob is shorting out. Take the battery out of the fob and just use the key for a while, or leave the fob a long ways away and see what happens.
