2-1/2" ss, went under the diff (sbc lump, prob abt to be changed for a 5.3). Fabbed these up and took them to my buds at the aircraft factory to weld 'em. They make them so pretty.
Damn if I didn't leave the house this morning and forget to bring them with me to the shop to put them on the car! I'm cleaning front end parts that I'm gonna paint instead of powder coat today so not going back to the house til I'm done. I'll get pics on the car tomorrow. Vertical links took an hour and a half to get them clean enough for the bead blaster, blast cab/weight is killing my left wrist (cts and arthritis).
there is an orbital welding machine that does a cleaner weld job on stainless steel. Doesn't cause the blueing.
Yea, the aircraft guys are fairly old school, all hand tig work, and they're very convenient to me. I kinda like the blueing... It did get pretty warm though.
Are the factory original stainless already? Unless you did this for a bigger bore.
Ian, the factory pipes are 1-1/4" iirc, mild steel. My car has an sbc at the moment and It's always needed 2-1/2" pipes, so I fabbed up all stainless from the downpipes back, two small mufflers in the orig positions and two in the rear original positions. Pipes under the diff, opened the holes in the rear valence.
