VID block for 4.2L car
Hi,
Does anyone have a copy of the VID block data produced by SDD that they would be willing to share, please?
Ideally 2005 XKR conv, but whatever...
Thanks,
Mike

I don't, but from following your very well-documented (thank you!) troubleshooting steps of the 2005 XKR in the other thread, I've realized it would be a very good idea for me to download a backup of mine, just in case. I have only just now started educating myself on what it'll take, so hopefully somebody else will help you out long before I have procured the needed software and hardware, and learnt how to use it.
I'm leaning towards buying the kit from British Diagnostics, which appears to come with a cable and a USB dongle with IDS/SDD installed on a virtual machine.
From reading through old threads that debated this topic, it sounds like I should plan to use this setup as read-only and not for uploading to the car, should the need ever arise. The concern is both with the cable itself, and with the stability of the virtual machine.
It will be fine for the diagnostics:- you probably won't ever need to reflash modules etc. Just save all the output it produces as dibbit suggests!
Best avoided. He took payment immediately on order then never responded to email when it failed to turn up. I had to pursue a chargeback with Visa... Others have had similar issues.
Mine came off the 'bay. IDS130 or 131 will be OK & it's freely available off t'interweb.

Guess I'm now in the market for an ancient laptop.
If you choose that route, it doesn't have to be an ancient one:- just needs Windows XP installing.
Having said that, a VM is fine for diags.

I have ordered a cable, downloaded the shockingly large v130 files, and setup an XP VM on my laptop. I'll try to install SDD tomorrow, but the cable likely won't get here for another two weeks so there isn't much more I can do until then.
Hi guys quick question i have IDS 118.5 and a true VCM how do you back up the VID block from the car, also can I take a copy of the current set up, I know I can upload to a new module but have not played with down loading the vid block from the car
thanks
thanks
Aww I see it now, thanks, I have it all set up on an old toughbook ended up finding a VCM a retired jag mechanic had it picked it up for 200 locally, I actually got the VMM module as well that connects. Works like a charm programed a few modules now works great.
BTW, I managed to install SDD and got to the screen where it prompts for the VCM, so all looks good so far.
You may need to disable time&date update to the VM, else it will reset to current. I've attached the commands to do this for VirtualBox.
If I understand correctly, the software you have is in addition to SDD, and is in fact required to download the VID block to external media, SDD can't do it on its own? If so, I would love to have it if you can share the drive link with me.
Thanks!
