Default trunk latch part question

So one of the plastic retainer clips for the trunk release cable disintegrated and the cable no longer stays in the metal opening. I highly doubt I'll be able to source the OEM part, any commendations on how to address the issue?

thank you

You can source Jaguar edge clip BRC3101 and bridge the opening like the door latch 'remote control handle' cable.
It is a metal retainer with 'teeth' to hold the end in place.

There are some places that still have inventory for X100 parts. Jaguar Palm Beach has helped me out with some stuff and they are diligent about making sure the part is right for your car before shipping it out. If they can't help, it looks like a pull/pull arrangement - the cables pull on the latch and the spring on the latch pulls the cables back. All you really need is to restrict the hole and slot in the bracket enough to keep the cable from slipping free. I would think a properly sized washer with a slot cut into it a little bit bigger than the cable should do the trick - you can bond it to the bracket with a little JB Weld. That's kind permanent, so if you ever do get a real cable, you will need to grind the washer off.

Great, there's something else to worry about.
If that cable ever dislodges with the trunk closed, I expect, the only way to gain access is with an angle grinder?
Seems like preventative measures are warranted!

I don't think so, with the keyhole so far off to the side on the rear, it must be pulling on the cable too to open the latch?

there are two separate cables, take a look at the pic. chances of both of them having an issue are not great IMO

Good point, though I'm still going to have a close look next time I'm in there.
Thanks!
