Default trunk latch fix

i did a lot of searching and could not find an answer.

My wifes car trunk quit latching....could not find anything on this problem..

I took the latch off andfound that it needed to be lubed and worked back and forth... viola fixed...

I figured i would do a mini write up in case someone else has the same problems..

  1. open the trunk
  2. place a flat screwdriver under the trunk lid carpet at the pins and pry them out to release the truk lid carpet.. or whatever you call it
  3. remove the three bolts that retain the trunk latch.
  4. remove the emergency handle from the release cable and feed it through the slit in the carpet.
  5. unlug the wires that run to the latch
  6. disconnect plastic clips from the actuating arms
  7. pull out the latch assembly and lube the shiny metal arm that the arms attached to
  8. work latch back and forth until the spring tension will return it on its own tension
  9. reinstall and have a beer

A couple of questions. Would this work if the trunk is NOT unlocking? I see a mention of an "emergency handle"...can this unlock a trunk that won't open? I'm at a loss here...just all of a sudden the trunk would not unlock with the key (it quit working with the inside button months ago when I pushed the "valet" button, & have not been able to "un-valet" it...but just used the key, until now.
