A Word About Keys
Jag used Tibbe keys from the late 1990s through 2009. If you don't know what this is, it's a key that has a round shaft with a flattened action end, that has a number of angled cuts. Those cuts determine the key code.
I have checked with my supplier, and there is no expectation of Tibbe key blanks going out of production, but since they were only used on Jags, a few Fords, and the early Transit Connect van, they WILL stop making these in the not-too-distant future (I plan to stock up). There are 8-cut and 6-cut keys (changeover about 2000 or so, there's conflicting data out there. The 6-cut keys came with a flip fob, the earlier keys had a fob that hung on a ring, separate from the key. The 8-cut keys will probably go away first, because they were earlier and fewer were used.
It seems that the key fobs for the early cars (8-cut) have gone out of production, NONE of my key suppliers has these in stock, either new or refurb. So, if you have one, take care of it!
I haven't been able to find an alternate fob, but it wouldn't surprise me if 315 MHz Ford fobs of the era are compatible. If anyone has already found a compatible, please let me know.

I do have an old Volvo fob that 'looks' the same internally, although it's a 2-button only.
You can still get the early fobs on eBay, if not every day, then most days. As with everything, the prices have disproved the adage, “what goes up must come down”.

PS / also, the junkyards have them, along with most parts for these cars.

Somewhat like fuel, these days. Certain XJ8 use the same fob.
Sorry -- I forget that not everywhere insists on making cubes out of dead vehicles, unlike here

As you say, the sellers are fully aware of the scarcity and have adapted their pricing accordingly., Even for the ones that look to have been driven over.

we have a pretty reliable used parts source in Texas called NOMA Auto Parts
https://nomaautoparts.com/
that specializes in Jaguar and Land Rover parts. They have most everything I’ve asked for and sell with a guarantee, “buyer satisfaction”. So far I’ve never had to send anything back.
They sell on eBay and also direct.
