Default Tonneau cover colors

Project XK8 recently purchased did not have tonneau cover. Do all the tan trim codes (oatmeal, cashmere, ivory) come with the same color tan tonneau cover or different for different trim codes?

Different. Mine was missing, too. I found one a while back in the Pick-A-Part. It was in excellent condition, but the car had an ivory interior and mine is Oatmeal. The cover matched the interior of the donor car and does not match mine. It's not so far off that it can't be used in a pinch, but it does look kinda funny.

@Y2KJag Thanks.
Going to make it difficult finding the right one. Most on eBay just say beige or tan. Can't trust the picture to determine the color. Many ads give VIN but VIN decoder is no help. I think there used to be a site you could get a build sheet, but I think that was shut down. Any ideas?

I guess you can always recolour to black, which would suit any car.

It's amazing how little information is contained in these VINs. Without the color code you're pretty much guessing. In my limited experience, those who say "tan" mean Cashmere, and "beige" is often Oatmeal. That's not much help.

There are 5 colors for the stowage cover from (VIN) A00083 to A30644. (4.0 liter)
There are 7 colors for the stowage cover up to (VIN) 042775.
TRIM CODE always works if you can read the matrix.
There are combinations of upper, lower and overall trim.
Model Year is important as the trim changes.

I bought a 1997 PARTS CAR and the trim was AGD but I needed LEG stowage cover for my 1998 convertible.
Luckily WARM CHARCOAL is easy to duplicate with a Duplicolor Vinyl spray paint (Black rattle can) and the AGD became LEG real fast.

There should be a tag on the boot cover that has a part number and maybe even a color. Doesn't help if you don't have your original, but at least you would know what you are buying.

My tag on the driver B pillar says mine is AGD. OK, but I have one that is a bit more brown (darker tan), any way we might be able to ship a small piece from under the seat to me to check for a match?
Oh, this one is extra, I have the matching one for my interior.

I've got some good experience with Hi-Tech vinyl, plastic and carpet dye. Comes in many different colors and several tan versions. Surely one of those would be pretty close, if not an exact match to your interior colour. You'll find that even if it's supposed to be an exact match, it may be a tad off due to sun exposure over the years.
