Default car stereo in old classic XJS wont remember setting

Hey guys just fitted a alpine stereo in my trusty old xjs and its not saving the settings when turned off and back on again. So i loose all my settings and stuff everytime. Been looking around at this car audio install website shows that you fix this by changing the wires around, but i am not sure which ones and what colors. Can you clarify this please for me thanks.

Also just out of curiousity can you connect it the 12 volt socket would this fix the issue because that car audio website says you can also connect it to there and it might fix the issue?

Welcome also.

The original stereos had 2 power wires.

1) Direct 12v to hold all memory settings.
2) Acc feed that gave the thing life and noise.

Remove what you have installed, go looking for that 12v wire, and in Jaguar World that is a SOLID BROWN wire. BUT, its fused, so its probably got a stripe on it of some colour that eludes me. Connect that to the wire on the new unit that has a memory/12v/unswitched/or something like that TAG on it.

Now the ACC wire, I forget the Jag colour, but it sounds like it is attached, and maybe attached to both stereo wires together. Hence the drop of memory when turned OFF.

These stereos (old and new) require that 12v to keep them at "idle", and the ACC power to wake them up, and they will NOT work if that 12v is not present.

I am NO stereo guru, just swapped out a few/heaps over the years, and its always ONE wire at a time and read the instructions before starting.

You could HOT wire it of course, but if you forget to switch it off when parking the car for night your battery will HATE you in the mornong, and ruin your day.

You do not identify your model or year, but on my car wiring for the radio is as follows:

Red/white (thinner ofthe two) = ignition switch live in
Red/white (thicker ofthe two) = feed to aerial relay
Purple = permanentlive for radio memory
Grey/red =illumination on with sidelights
