Over the past week I have been keeping an eye on a craigslist ad for a "95 xj12". The seller says he wants Only the Engine Block and will part out the rest of the car. Ok fine. I am doing rehab on the wifes toy, a 90 xjs, so I think I could make use of some of this car for that if only in engine parts. I then think I could use a rear end for my red car (if its not too different 94 to 95)... an on and on.....
I went to see the car today and found not an x305, but an xj81. I was instantly over the moon. It has the picnic tables, the rear window pull-up screens, the glove box (it has one) says "xj12" in the wood inlay, it has a decent mahogany interior, and is relatively solid underneath for being in the rust belt. I dont know the mileage. I have arranged to pick it up next weekend for a whopping $800. I plan to use its parts on 3 of my cars so I dont think it will be a waste to part it. I will list the remains in the marketplace once I know what I want to keep. For now, I need to research the vin.
Well. the vin decoder calls it a 94. My 94 "the Moneyfunnel" is #698800, this one is #678262 so it seems likely. I do wonder about the glove box. The option listing says driver side airbag but makes no mention of a passenger side airbag. Could it be an xj12 thing? And were there model year 93 xj12's? It also says limited slip rear. I hope its good.....I know somewhere it could go. I suspect that the car just didnt get sold till 95 so thats what the title says.
Wife and I went and picked this beast up today (before we get permanently sent to our rooms). The whole thing came off very well- the seller was friendly and helped us a lot loading it. He was also thoughtful enough to keep the nasty oily stuff off of the interior. What a Guy! No one was injured that I know of and we made it back in one piece. The title does in fact say that its a 94 but he didnt buy it to use as a car so I cant really fault him for not knowing. I am sure that once the dust settles I will have parts to make available. I will be sifting through piles for a while yet though. Despite the tinge of sadness at finishing off a solid car, I am excited at the possibilities. I am actually disappointed that the body is really pretty straight and solid- even the dangling lens is only the plastic. It just seems a waste of a solid car. Seeing it out like this it is Huge! I still need to get the trans and remaining engine parts from him.
Today I spent a lot of time pulling parts and checking out the landscape as it were. I had unquantifiable amounts of fun. My happy place is a junkyard after all. I played with the picnic tables, messed around with the rear sunshades and found that not only does the rear armrest have storage, But that there's a second cubby below it between the cushions. I laughed loudly and took pics. Then I saw these things in the roof panel. I dont know what they are and I checked Jag Heritage and Barratts both to no avail. By my thinking they are either Tiny speakers or defogger vents. I have no way of finding this out - at least until I take it apart which Will happen. Anyone else seen this? Defog vent or speaker? Too bad its not focused. Guh!
I think they are sensors for the alarm system and BTW the 94 VDP has an armrest like that with the twin cubbies! (reminds me: what did I stash in there, been a while since I looked!)
I didnt think about them being motion sensors. Ill have to check around the car for more. It does have the siren under the hood. The car seems to be a VDP in all but label- there is wood trim on the roof console among all this other stuff.
I am preparing to try to remove the headliner. In my researches I have not found any reference to what may be holding the D-E pillar trim on. There is a phillips head screw at the lower forward corners, but I have to think there are clips of some sort in strategic locations around the piece. Can someone post a pic of one of these clips, or maybe the back side of the trim panel? These are fancy leather trimmed pieces and I want the best chance of not damaging. My ultimate plan is to swap this whole interior into the Moneyfunnel. Thanks!
there are no more movement sensors for the interior, just the ones in the roof lining, the control module is located under the front left seat base ,
these are only activated on full deadlock of the vehicle..
the b pillar trims are are held in with spring clips and are sadly made of leather covered pressed card in your case, so will damage if bent over hard etc.....be careful , first remove the seatbelt retainer , then remove the two lower fixings , and gently pull away , there are ' tucked ' into the trim on the side all the way up as well ,
i think you will find the build date of your car is actually 1993 in the UK, as the 1994 has a dash installed airbag and no glovebox,
