Smile dash lights

All dash lights areout...any ideas where to start with that

A little more information wouldn’t go amiss.

Does the engine start? If it does, does everything else still work?

If it doesn’t start or crank then try the battery first.

Do you have a fuse out? Is the column knob turned to "off?" Maybe a ground wire needs cleaned up?

car starts all gauges work just no lights illuminating instruments/dash at night

where is the fuse?

I 'think' its second from the left in the center console fuse box. However, there is an indicator lamp on the left side of the instrument panel, if there is a fuse blown it lights- looks like a lightning bolt. I don't have my owners manual at hand, but I know it lists them all pretty thoroughly. You can also look in the pages from the Haynes manual up in the sticky section.
