I've moved your question from General Tech Help to UK & Eire Region forum.

Legally, fitting a non retracting mascot contravenes Construction & Use Regulations. That is why Jaguar stopped fitting them but MB and Rolls Royce went to such lengths to redesign theirs.

Hi smatt61

Thank you for your post.

Due to a change in British motor law brought in in 1986, Jaguar along with other motor manufacturers were required to remove bonnet ornaments from our vehicles. Please refer to British law, Regulation 53 Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 which states:

No mascot, emblem or other ornamental object shall be carried by a motor vehicle first used on or after 1 October 1937 in any position where it is likely to strike any person with whom the vehicle may collide unless the mascot is not liable to cause injury to such person by reason of any projection thereon.

Regards

Ryan

Hi Ryan
Was that 1st October 1937 or 1987?

Hi

As stated, the law would be applicable to vehicles manufactured on or after 1st October 1937.

In order for a vehicle to adorn a bonnet ornament after the law change in 1986, the vehicle in question would need to have been manufactured prior to 1st October 1937 and the ornament used continuously during the vehicle's lifetime without any breaks during production models.

Regards

Ryan
