Default Car tax exemption

If 100,000 people petition online the motion will have to go through Parliament; democracy at work!

NO - it will be "considered for debate" ........

....... bureaucracy at work.

In practice, unless a petition has the support of influential MP's and the profile is raised in the media, it will be buried before it gets anywhere near Parliament.

Don't be such a poo fart; it will be considered for debate IN Parliament; by Parliamentarians.
No wonder we always lose with that outlook!

It's not so much being a poo fart, but as you get older you realise that the government (in its various party guises) over the years seems to be consistently incapable of living up to it's claims.. such as the 24 year car tax issue.. it leads you to the question of do we expect too much of a government, or is it just that government is incapable of living up to its claims?

It does not stop me adding my name to the petition *but* I am fairly sure it won't make any odds :-)

You may say I am a pessimist but hey... I still give it a go and hope (especially now I have a 17 year old XJ that is approaching the 24 year stage and is unlikely to hit the 40 year stage in my lifetime :-)

I'm only interested because mine is 27 this year!
Although it does pee me off immensely that I have to tax 4 cars when I can only drive one of them at a time, 2 if you count 'er indoors too.
Anyway, a response has appeared.

I saw the response too - not a surprising one as 'austerity' covers so many things :-) so just 22 years until my XJ is taxfree - so if I still have her when I am 76 I can finally stop paying the tax lol

:-P

LOL, not so much whining, as asking the current Prime Minister to do what he said he would do if he was voted in.. and surprisingly he isn't lol But it's not something to lay at his door, as we get this with each successive government - they seldom manage to do what they stated they would do :-) Any yet we keep voting them in.. as I said earlier I think some is due to use expecting too much from a government, and some is due to the government overstrating what it can achieve..

But, all this aside at least I now know when I am 76 I can stop paying my car tax lol :-)

The Government is one giant paedophile ring. Unless you have the dirt on them yourself then they only answer to those who do have. They run these petitions as a safety valve and to get data on public opinion. If they happen to want the same thing as the petitioners do then they can use the petition as justification.
