Just shop around, start with the comparison sites and then try going direct. Last year, and this year I'll be covering my S-Type with Go Skippy - yep never heard of them before, but by far the cheapest for my Jag, and their direct renewal cost they posted to me was cheaper than the cheapest quote at comparison website, and cheaper than last years premium with them too!

I'm sure many of us go through the same ritual every year:
1. renewal notice arrives
2. check comparison websites
3. re-negotiate with current insurer
4. get a better deal or switch insurer
I run two cars and both have been on separate policies with Admiral for the last three years.
The renewal notice for my other car arrived this week. I was amazed to find it is 」7 less than last year and none of the comparison websites can come within 」100 of the Admiral premium. Motor insurance has always been a strange business!

If you opt for a pay monthly direct debit you invariably end up with credit agreement with a finance company which will substantially increase the cost (usury?).
NFU offer a much cheaper credit rate but the premium will be higher.
One option is pay it on your credit card and pay it off as fast as possible.
